WKU is putting in a bid to host Nationals 2015 at Western Kentucky University. Here is some information about WKU.
Location:
The university is located in Bowling Green, KY. Bowling Green is easy to access because a major US interstate runs through it (I-65), so there is no need to be driving a bunch of different back roads. All you have to do is to get on the interstate and it will take you to Bowling Green and it is a straight drive off of the interstate to the university.
Courts:
The Preston Center (which is the WKU equivalent to the RPAC at OSU) is where Nationals would be held. There are 4 full sized courts that would be used to play games that are all divided by netting. A fifth court will be used for fans to observe the games. The fifth court is located to where a fan could observe any game they choose. We are trying right now to get 2 more auxiliary courts. There are racquetball courts that are beside the courts that will be used for game play that can be used for warming up. Using them will prevent interfering game play while giving teams effective space to warm up for their match. There is also an all-purpose room that will be used for teams to put their stuff in and also rest. Someone will always be present in the room to protect each team’s things, and they will be there to answer any questions that anybody will have.
Recording:
WKU is going to be able to record each game on each court. With Jazzy's help each game will be recorded with commentary, photos of teams and game action will be taken, marquee games will be live blogged, and scores and update of records on game days will be posted on social media. The final bracket will also be posted on social media so everyone can see the full bracket.
Lodging:
There are 6 hotels that are located within 5 miles of campus whose rates are $70 or less a night and two are as low as $44 a night. There are a total of 20 hotels within 5 miles of the university with rates varying from $44 a night to $132 a night.
Food:
There are multiple places on campus where people can eat that are within a few hundred feet of the Preston Center, like an ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET, two Subways, a Chick-fil-a, a Popeye’s, and a Burger Studio (a place where you can hand pick your burgers and topping, as well as what kind of sides). There are also a McDonalds, Rally's, Sonic, Arby's, Papa Johns, Jimmy Johns, Hardees, and a Waffle House that are within 1.5 miles of campus.
Parking:
Campus offers FREE PARKING on the weekends and there are many parking options near the Preston Center so teams will not have to pay to park, nor will they have an extremely long walk to the gym.
Extra:
We hope to personalize each All-Star shirt with the player’s last name on the back of the shirt as well as the school that they represent. That way everyone will know who represents which schools. We also hope to make a shirt for the girls’ game. We are also going to be making 2015 National Champion shirts for the winning team to keep and cherish.
This is the information that we have collected so far for Nationals 2015. If there are any questions, just ask and I will be able to answer for you!
