Alright so newest update on Dodgeball at Madison: Looking a little bleak but i will not give up! I had my meeting with the club sports director of UW-Madison today and long story short, I will not have an OFFICIAL Dodgeball Club team this year. The director said that I have to bassically go a year paying for everything on our own, saving bills so that they know what our expense report will be. Also, i have to show that we have enough people coming each day and that we have played a few schools and possibly participated in the National Tournament. SOOO, this year will be a ragtag bunch of kids i'm throwing together (hopefully we'll get some dedicated people though) to make it through the year for official recognition next fall. I will be buying all equipment with my own $$ but thats a small price to pay to get this going. So all in all it's time for me to start advertising dodgeball, and reserving gymspace on a week by week basis. Wish me luck everyone and i will keep you updated on any further progress.

Hey buddy, I think many of us know what your going through. You will get those few couple guys who love to play and want to play. Then from there the team will only build. Look at Central. It started with about 7 guys and last year we took 2nd place at Nationals in only 2 1/2 years. Just keep working at it and you will get it.

DePaul Dodgeball will be donating at least 10 new balls whenever you stop by or we will bring them whenever we come up there.
Plus, DePaul is hosting a post season hat tournament at the end of April. So plenty of opportunities to play with us again. Just hit us up
And I have a contact for a printing company out of warren, MI that did our club shirts and will be handling our jerseys in Jan. Let me know if you want it, they do great work and really easy to work with. If you need help with logo work, me and champ are down. I love doing sports logos.

Why, if your a student organizatuion you should still be able to reserve space.. even if it is a court.

Hey Brian,
As a former DePaul Dodgeballer, we will do everything in our power to help you spread the greatness that is dodgeball! I agree with Zig, we'd be happy to donate some dodgeballs to your team! I'd be willing to drive them up sometime in December when I'm back in the country. Otherwise we can see if we can organize a trip for DePaul to come up at the beginning of your Winter semester.
As far as getting recognized as a club sport, I would just try and play as much as possible, get the word out that there is a team. Even if you only play once a week. It may be a good idea to hold a few information sessions, just so you're not wasting your money if nobody shows up because they don't know about it. I'd double check on that cost, because if you're a student org it shouldn't cost that much to get court space, but then again I don't know UWM protocol. Otherwise I'd check in the area and see if there are any community centers that will let you rent space out for free or at least cheaper than $15/hour.
Like I said, I'll see if we can get a group from DePaul to come up and play a match or two with whomever may be interested at Madison. Also take advantage of the fact that UW Plattville is rather close. Also, you're more than welcome to come down to DePaul at anytime and we can organize a match on a weekend for you guys. Just show your student life office that you're active and playing other teams.
Good luck and let us know if there's anything we can do to help!

$15 an hour isn't outrageous, when the school is giving you some money for funding. But since you don't have that yet, that definitely sucks. At Platteville we had to pay $15 an hour even as a sports club to reserve space because we had to practice after facilities closed. I am not sure how your rec centers work, but you may be able to "sneak" in during off times such as Saturday mornings (which may be a lot to ask for Madison students) or Sunday nights. Thursday nights are also usually slower. We were always told that our basketball courts could only be used for dodgeball if no one was playing basketball on them. So, we just tried to find slow times and told our members that there was always the chance we might not get a court. Not the best situation, but it did save some money. If you mix a free possible practice with a guaranteed paid practice, it shouldn't cost too much.
Also, if you have accessible outdoor basketball or tennis courts that have a fence, play outside as long as you can. The pavement wrecks the balls kind of fast, but it is free courts. I think Platteville still does that as much as they can to save money.
Also, check into the possibility of using either tennis courts or racquetball courts at Neilsen. They would probably say no because they are probably protective of those courts, but you don't know until you ask.
