Ah I see, the "Rules" link on the ncda frontpage does not link to the correct rules. I swear I've seen them at some point this year, yet I can't seem to find them anywhere. As Felix pointed out, the rules link on the homepage takes you to the rule book we'll be using at Nationals.

Okay, I understand now. In that case, where in the current rulebook does it say that a dropped ball used to block an incoming ball results in an out? I just can't find it, I'm probably being dumb

ii. Blocking
1. A player may use a ball in their possession to block a ball thrown by the opposing team. 2. If a ball that is being used to block becomes dislodged by a Direct Hit the player must regain possession of their ball before it hits another player, ball or object.
#2... meaning if you do not regain possession, and the ball does hit another player, ball or object, then that player would be out.

That does not actually state that the player would be out, it just kind of implies that something bad might happen. I'm glad that we're clarifying that rule for next year.

I don't think it is being clarified. That's how the rule has always been.

Umm, that wouldnt be a direct hit then. It would be a deflected hit.

Actually i think sweet is exactly right, and therefore under the current rulebook we have accidentally left out that dropped blocks are out. Consider this:
"1. Direct Hit – When a ball that is thrown by one team hits a player on the opposing team before hitting any other object (ground, player on either team, another ball)"
"2. If a ball that is being used to block becomes dislodged by a Direct Hit the player must regain possession of their ball before it hits another player, ball or object."
Therefore, a ball that hits another ball before anything else is not a Direct Hit (by the rulebook definition of Direct Hit), and players would not be required to regain possession. They could not get out by dropping the blocking ball.
The rulebook for next year takes care of this problem, however, with the following rules:
"3.4.2.3 Blocking - A Target may use any dodgeball to block any thrown ball, but the blocking dodgeball(s) must remain secure. 3.4.2.3.1 If a blocking ball becomes dislodged, the Target must regain possession before the ball becomes dead. Failure results in a Loss of Possession and the Target is ruled out."

It was still an awesome captured moment, even if it is technically only one out.

Agreed. Plus had to have had some heat on it to hit someone then knock a ball out after the deflection

Last call for videos gentlemen, if you want your team in this video or you got a epic highlight you have not told me about let me know in the next 48 hours. I still dont have stuff from every team in the NCDA and I dont have time to scour the internet looking through a hundred different dodgeball videos. So if you want your team in the video, link it. (WKU dont worry I have more than enough footage from you guys)

(WKU dont worry I have more than enough footage from you guys) We don't have a lot of action stuff where we are wearing jerseys, but this is our repository. depauldodgeball.com/feed/category/vids/the promo 2011 has a shot of about 25 people charging from the baseline. And if you disregard me talking that pretty much sums up DePaul Dodgeball. Also this was filmed when Moody came to our dodgeball night, and while you won't be able to pick em out this is the only footage we have of them playing.

Also in the promo 2009 there is a backwards somersault catch by our "flip dude" to get Jack Attack in.
