Hey All,
DePaul will be hosting a Hat Tournament on Sunday, May 1st, 2011 in beautiful Chicago.
It shall be named the May Day Dodgeball Rally, to honor the history of the day, which started with the Chicago 8.
Venue:
Ray Meyer Fitness & Recreation Center
2235 N. Sheffield Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614
Located on DePaul's Lincoln Park Campus
Courts 3 & 4 for the day
Room 312 (Operation Center/Store your s***)
Relay for Life is Friday night, it takes a whole day to clean up, and Chicago Sports Social Club takes up all other Saturdays/Sundays. All participants must sign a non-member access waiver as required by the University.
Gameplay Format:
- DePaul Rules - Mainly, catches do not result in an out for the thrower, unless the catcher's team jail is empty.
- Some semblance of a tournament
- Teams are decided in a random fashion; each player's name is put on a slip of paper and that paper is put in a top hat. Team members are then chosen randomly out of that very hat.
- Teams nominate a Captain within their team members, mainly to organize the team for their matches.
- The Steve Nash Trick Shot Contest (Kent's FitzPatrick holds the current title)
- Food (maybe)
- Event Shirts (maybe yes)
Teams Committed:
DePaul - Chicago (30-40)
DePaul Alumni - Various (10-20)
Teams Excited:
Moody Bible Institute - Chicago (20)
EMU - Ypsilanti (5-10)
Please let us know how many you plan on bringing...
Lodging:
You are also welcome to look into your own rates. If you need help in registering or looking at stuff, hit me up. Here's a bunch of places with a DePaul rate. Just make sure you ask about a DePaul rate when you register.
Some members of the DePaul Dodgeball Society are also offering very limited space in their own apartments near campus. I had 5 guys from Kent stay at my apartment for the Hat Tournament earlier this year.
Parking:
Street parking bordering any part of DePaul's campus is non permit, other parts are either metered or labeled as permit. There is also a parking garage down the street. You cannot park in the church parking lot, which is across the street from the Ray! It will be probably be blocked off and you will be towed.
Permit spaces: Permits are only in effect from 6:00pm - 7:00am. It's ok to park there doing the day, just can't stay there overnight.

Other Information:
- As this is a hat tournament, we are opening entry to any veterans who are still itching to play dodgeball. We are inviting as many DePaul alumni as we can contact.
- If no one really wants to play DePaul rules and people whine about it, we might use the Catches are Out rule.
