Because Zigmas wants us to get more matches for next semester, I figured I would announce the 2012 MDC.
As always, this is the tournament to determine Michigan supremacy. It will be open to all the schools in Michigan, which as of right now I know of:
MSU SVSU GVSU CMU EMU LCC MCC
MCC is on there assuming McCarthy can get them working together pronto, LCC is on there assuming they can get the last couple of players they need. I'm under the assumption that the established teams will be there (SVSU/GVSU/CMU/EMU).
If we get all 7! teams there, then I have no idea how we'd run the tournament. If anyone has any ideas on how to run a 7 team tournament, please let me know. If we get 6, we'll do the pool play system that we've got going on for the MSU Invite. If we get 5 or less (hopefully not) then we'll just do a round robin.
I'm going to try and host it at MSU's IM West (the place we have it every year). It'll be either February 11th or February 18th.

The cleanest way to do it from an operation perspective is for everyone to get two games with a possibility of a third.
Round 1 C v D
Round 2 A v G B v F C v E
Round 3 A v E B v D F v G
You're guaranteed at least one 2-0 team, but you might get as many as three. If it's one, they're the champs; if it's three, it's a tie. If it's two, they play for it.

How about a double elimination bracket? With 7 teams there would be a maximum of 13 games (12 if we did only one championship game instead of having the first place team lose twice) so 12 games on 2 courts = 6 hours of gym time (probably schedule more to be safe). This way each team would get a minimum of 2 games, likely more, and each finishing place 1-7 could be determined. www.mysportsbrackets.com/tournament_brackets/7teamde.jpg

I like the double elimination style bracket a lot, I think we'd have to do a random draw to see who was in what position (I don't really want to go off of points because CMU currently doesn't have any games scheduled so far as far as I'm aware so I don't want them to be the 7 seed while being the best team in the country).

The prize is a trophy, and so long as your school is in Michigan then you're more than welcome to attend

Alright, I'm pretty sure that we (meaning Michigan teams) are all done until the MDC. So assuming MCC and EMU come we're doing the 7 team elimination bracket.
Right now the bracket would look like this:
1 GVSU bye
4 EMU 10 am 5 CMU
6 Macomb 10am 3 MSU
2 SVSU 11:15am 7 LCC
I have a full bracket made already for this situation.
The only problem is we only have the gym til 9 so we might not be able to get 2 championship games in (like if the loser's bracket team beats the winner's bracket team) but I figured that people might not care about that because you could possibly be playing 6 games in the day already if you lose your first match and then make it to the finals.
If a team drops then we'll do pool play based on standings.
#1, #4, #5 in one pool, #2, #3, #6 in the other. Best record from each pool plays the other pool's winner, 2nd vs 2nd, 3rd vs 3rd. For tiebreaks we can decide on that later, I'd prefer point differential but I know that means that teams might get slaughtered.
If two or more teams drop we'll do a round robin. For that tiebreak we'll do head to head, and if we need a different tiebreak we can decide on that later as well.
Lemme know if this is okay with everyone.

Hey Sam, I know I'm a day late. But EMU will be at the tournament on Feb. 11th. We're working out some things, but we will be at MSU for the tournament.
