Just figured I'd get this out here so that everyone would know, but we will be hosting the 4th annual MSU Invite this fall. It will have to land on a non-football home game date for us (we're aiming towards November 10th).
It will be a 6 team tournament. This way if a team drops like this year, everyone will still get at least 3 games. If we did a 8 team tournament and someone dropped we'd be screwed. Plus that's a lot of court time to reserve.
It's open to all non-Michigan teams. If we don't get enough teams then I believe GVSU has first dibs of all Michigan teams to play.
We won't know a date until the first week of fall classes, so don't confirm you're coming until we get a date set, but if people are interested feel free to comment.

JMU is interested, but surveying our options. We like the idea of heading up there though.

Yeah that sounds great Chris, if it can happen I'll make sure you guys get the opportunity to play teams you haven't yet played (for example Moody and Depaul are both interested) so that you'll get some new blood to face.

Does Sunday, November 4th work for teams? Kent State requested that day if we can get it, and it works for us.

Okay, I requested Sunday, November 4th. I asked for two gyms from 9am-6 pm, giving enough time for either a 6 team pool play tournament or a 5 team round robin tournament. Warmup will begin at 10, play at 11. Captain's meeting at 10:45 to go over the boundaries (especially in our upstairs gym.)
Right now the following teams have shown interest:
Moody Depaul Kent State CMU GVSU SVSU JMU BGSU.
Now I believe the BotV is on the 4th as well, so am I correct to assume that GVSU and SVSU won't be able to attend?
I should get a confirmation email sometime during the week. In the worst case scenario that we do NOT get the gym time, I will try and find another day to request or we can consider moving it to another location similar to the 2010 MSU Invite. If we do get the gym space though we'll figure out who all is coming and go from there.

The Invite will feature the following teams: Michigan State, Central Michigan, Depaul, Bowling Green, Kent State, and Moody Bible.
The tournament is currently scheduled to be a two pool style tournament. The pools will be: Pool A: MSU, BGSU, Depaul Pool B: CMU, Kent, Moody
Each team will play the two other teams in their pool. The winners of the pools will play each other, the runner ups will play each other, and the teams in third will play each other. We can figure out tiebreak scenarios later on, I was personally thinking point differential then points allowed.
We have the gym from 9am-6pm. We could probably use it longer if for some reason matches take forever but we will not be scheduling 4th games for teams unless a team drops, in which case every team will get 4 games.
Preliminary schedule (all times Eastern for you Chicago folks):
9am- setup 10am- warmups 10:45am- Captains meeting 11:00am- Sports Arena: MSU vs BGSU Gym 3: CMU vs Kent 12:15pm- Sports Arena: BGSU vs Depaul Gym 3: Kent vs Moody 1:30pm- Sports Arena: MSU vs Depaul Gym 3: CMU vs Moody 2:45pm- Sports Arena: Pool A 2nd Place vs Pool B 2nd Place Gym 3: Pool A 3rd Place vs Pool B 3rd Place 4:00pm- Sports Arena: Pool A 1st Place vs Pool B 1st Place 5:15pm- Matches over, cleanup
Now obviously we're going to be behind schedule, so that's why we've got that extra 45 minutes blocked just in case and I scheduled the matches to be 1:15 instead of 1 hour.
I'm also working on trying to get the camera people who did the 2012 MDC to tape the MSU Invite. They'd likely only tape the matches in the Sports Arena however, because there's nowhere to tape in Gym 3. Also this is still just a small chance, but it's something I'm working on because it was pretty cool for the MDC footage.
If you guys have any other questions feel free to ask!
