This is an excerpt from the NCDA Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation that is being put together. Its purpose is to establish a written account of how the League functions, and has functioned. If the Association deems the expense in their best interest, they can file for non-profit status, with Bomis being the paid legal counsel of the NCDA.
The forum gives members the ability to submit input on to what the NCDA is and where it's going, so feel the freedom to comment.

Incorporation as a Michigan non-profit organization and apply for 501(c)(3) status:
NCDA Charter, 2012-2013 Rulebook, Other materials as necessary
After being paid to do so, Bomis files needed paperwork filed at the state or federal level, remaining available as counsel in exchange for being able to call the NCDA a client and for a nominal retainer, say $250/yr.
Article 1: Definitions
Title: The full and official title of this organization shall be the “National Collegiate Dodgeball Association.” It may also be referred to by its official abbreviation, “NCDA,” or as “the Association.”
Type of Entity: The NCDA shall be incorporated as a not-for-profit Association under the laws of the State of Michigan, abiding by the laws of all states or provinces in which it operates, and in accordance with the laws, rules, and regulations of a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States of America.
Office: The Principal Office of the Association will be in the same municipality as the Commissioner [or other title TBD]. If this office lies outside the State of Michigan, the Association shall maintain an office or registered agent within the State of Michigan.
Domain: The Association shall aim to include and represent all collegiate dodgeball organizations and clubs in North America, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico; including their respective territories and dependencies. If a collegiate organization wishes to join the Association and is outside the United States, reasonable efforts shall be made to include the organization in the Association.
Purposes: The National Collegiate Dodgeball Association shall strive to be the premier governing body regarding collegiate level play of the Sport of Dodgeball in North America, representing the interests of its Member Teams and Student Athletes in such purposes as:
League Match: A contest of dodgeball, played by two teams that are both registered student organizations of an accredited college or university, played under the NCDA ruleset.
Member Team: In order to become a Member Team of the Association, an organization must:

- To establish and maintain a standardized Rulebook, Officiating Manual, and Casebook;
- To foster, promote, and help organize regional, national, and international play;
- To serve as a medium for the exchange of information related to dodgeball;
- To maintain and foster the Spirit of the Game, which brings many to play and experience the Sport of Dodgeball, and enjoy it as a part of his or her college experience.
League Match: A contest of dodgeball, played by two teams that are both registered student organizations of an accredited college or university, played under the NCDA ruleset.
Member Team: In order to become a Member Team of the Association, an organization must:
- Be a registered student organization or club sport of a place of higher education;
- Have at least 10 eligible students to play, as required in the Rulebook;
- Submit current contact information for scheduling purposes (upon receipt of information, the organization will be noted as an Upcoming Member Team);
- At least once a season, play a dodgeball match under the NCDA ruleset against another registered student organization or club sport. A Match does not need to include a current Member Team, so two Upcoming Teams may play each other to attain Member Team status.
