I agree with Mike and Jeremy, even though it's slightly unfair to schools like Northwestern State, but I'd hate to see a school like Saginaw (who currently doesn't have an automatic berth in the tournament) get the shaft because of a random draw. Maybe do something where each team starts with say 5 pieces of paper in a hat, and then add one for every game played? Just my personal opinion.

I have a problem with the idea of giving some teams more opportunities than others, and I'm pretty sure NSU is in the same boat as us. The main reason that we don't go and play games is because we are trying to save money in our budget to go to Nationals. Also, when we do decide to host a game or tournament, many teams are unable to make it here to play because of money. Why should we be penalized in this system for our distance from the bulk of teams that play?

I think what we are saying is some teams go out of their way to go and play other schools or host games/tournaments. Look at some of these teams that have 6-7+ games. Depaul has played 13. I can guarantee that these teams get minimum to no funding at all, and yet they go to these tournaments and pay for them out of their own pockets. If you guys were to set up and host a tournament and let people know ahead of time I know people would be willing to make the trip out there and play you guys.
Take SVSU for example. They have been a team for a while now, but have not qualified for Nationals by winning one of the set tournaments so far this year. Therefore they have to sign up with the rest of the teams that have not qualified. They could easily be screwed in this situation and not be able to play at Nationals, even though they are probably the second most talented team in the league.
It's going to be unfair to someone this year until we can have a tournament that EVERY team can attend. I just find it more unfair to a team that participated throughout the year and then didn't get to play at Nationals.

The only way I can see it working that we will be able to host EVERYONE in the league would be if we raise the entry fee to $200 per team (to pay for the extra hours for the use of the facility and referees), get rid of the skills challenge events, and only allow the top 16 teams to play on Sunday in the bracket (the bottom four would go home early). If this is something that everyone would be interested in please let me know ASAP because I'll need to do some serious reconfiguring.
We would have the 16 teams that have played this year so far, plus Nebraska, NSU, Towson University, and maybe Kansas State.
What are everyone's thoughts?
Keep in mind that it HAS to be 20 teams. Not 19.

None of this would be a problem if we had regionals... Just saying... It's something I've said we needed from the start of the league, if not now, for the future... And guess what, it's the future...

That's something we're going to discuss at the captain's meeting for next year. I just don't think there's enough time to get that all together for this year.

Are we positive we are even going to have 16 teams? Just 2 years ago at GVSU nationals I dont even think we had 10, is the demand for a spot for nationals that hotly contested? I guarantee some teams will be dropping out due to funds or something else as the deadline gets closer.

Four regions... Each regional winner gets an automatic berth. Then top 4 teams points wise fill out the rest of the field. Then you have an 8 team nationals... 2 pools of 4 teams each. First day each team plays three games in their pool, then single elimination tournament on second day. Perfect way to crown a champion.

we're nowhere near big enough to have regions yet, right now we have 18 active teams (of which two haven't even played a match), we might as well just use our current system. i'm with spencer here, i'd be shocked if we get more than 16 bids on the opening day of registration. you can't expect all 20 teams with nationals interest to be able to get the funds/men to make it to nationals.

If you read earlier in the thread I put that the Baymount Inn was giving us a group rate of $59.99 per room. Right now I have Depaul marked down for 5 rooms, CMU for 3, MSU for 3, and GVSU for 4. Is that correct? If anyone else needs room at this rate please let me know SOON. The deadlines already passed, but I can definitely try to get you guys that same rate at the same place. We just put in the reservation for 5 rooms, check in friday the 8th and check out the 10th. They sounded very nice.

Sweet, and they still let you have the rate of $59.99 per night, correct?

yes, i believe so. They also said something about something regarding school tax break or something, but I couldn't understand her because the phone connection was terrible. Don't know if was the five feet of snow here or that just all kentucky phones seem to suck (as per our experience with the Red Roof for the KY invite).
I'm waiting on the confirmation email

It's probably a combination of your five feet of snow and our 80 mph winds today. I'm not sure about the tax break, but I'll be sure to ask for you! I know at certain businesses around town we do not have to pay taxes on things for the sport club (such as screen printing).

What if we book rooms and then are not accepted for the tournament? Is their a fee for cancellations?
