when's the last time anyone played a game? there's nothing going on right now. bomis just got elected commish, i think that's good enough for him to be declared BotM, since nobody else has done anything since the middle of april.

This would be like major league baseball making Bud Selig the player of the month in January. At least July is almost here...
Also, who all voted for Bomis to be commish? Because from what I hear not all the captains were asked to vote. Can we see the results? Who was he up against? Do we need a commissioner?
All I can see is that in the topic where this all came up is that Bomis gave himself the title after nobody told him no... Wow, congrats on being "elected."

Baseball also doesnt have a 'player of the month' for January so your comparison is quite useless. Their player of the month is based on statistics, something we do not have.
I am sure that Bomis is having people line up to get his autograph because of his new found fame because of BotM. BotM is more of a recognition for peoples hard work. BotM doesnt seem to go to the best player in that month, like it does in baseball, but rather the person who has worked hardest. No offense Alexis, but i think most can agree that she probably was not the very best 'baller' during the month of April but she got is because of how much work she put into setting up the tournament. She deserved BotM and i dont think many people can disagree with that.
On to the note about the commish. Who would be a better candidate? We need a person who is no longer on a varsity roster and who will be least biased. Bomis is the best option. He is one of the few people who played the game and are still involved outside of playing. Oh, and when have we ever seen the votes on a captains vote? I am sure that Bomis saw the results and didnt "give himself the title after nobody told him no," as you suggested.

I agree that Bomis wasn't elected. Anyone can find the process in the NCDA Government thread. I think we all think Bomis should play more dball. Calling him elected, while holding the election on a forum that isn't regularly visited, is a little dubious...
But how does the ncda truly function? There are Nationals, which are established annually and hosted by a particular school, and then there are the teams that come together for various matches during the season...
There is not much of a central controlling force in how the NCDA runs its activities; nobody is telling DePaul to have a match with WKU, other than the respective captains. This league is a confederation and its people operate as an autocracy...
I agree that Bomis should be commish, only if who else should have the job? The captains of each team come together to sort out the rules and other such, but what else is there to do? The only thing I can see that is of any consequence is the website. Bugging teams to submit content is a great way to spread the league online, which is totally cheap...
Also, I totally ended each paragraph with an ellipsis on purpose...

The main thing that Bomis said he would handle is the bureaucratic crap, such as making sure rules are enforced at Nationals (so the teams can focus on important things like games). He's also acting as the face of the NCDA and handling opportunities that the league gets to help grow our sport, including a big one recently that we'll reveal on the website shortly.

All right, I'm going to lay this out once and only once.
1) Except for when an article is posted with my name on it, I have zero to do with the website. This "baller of the month" stuff, any descriptions that go along with it, none of that is me. Hell, I even asked in this thread to get the link to my facebook profile removed.
2) I didn't post the "NCDA government" thread, which should be proof enough I'm not gunning for a job. Hell, when I posted in it I lambasted the idea, saying it would be a position of little/no authority.
And I meant what I said - it's in my resume as a volunteer gig (Jack can vouch for this). Beyond that I'm not going to have much of anything to do between now and April unless someone wants to contact "the NCDA," which Josh kind of alluded to. I don't know about revealing anything just yet since there's nothing to reveal, but we are consulting for an outside entity. Team captains will be informed as details solidify.
3) I'm not playing college dodgeball no mo'. See, when you've got a school league, and you're no longer in school, that kinda puts a cap on it. Plus, some of us are actually trying to start careers.
You and I don't get along Ben. I get that. I think your constant rankings and divisions talk is unnecessary, and you think I make biased calls as an official. Fine. But put on your big boy pants for a moment, recognize this baller of the month fluff is not something to get bent out of shape about, and enjoy the rest of your summer vacation. And of course once you graduate you will be more than welcome to help out at the tournament, extra refs are always appreciated.

Yes, I can vouch for that. And it is a volunteer gig. One that no one should really worry about all that much.
I'm not gonna echo what Aleks said, Ben, cause I do get along with you... but this is pretty ridiculous. Josh decides who the Baller of the Month is, and frankly, no one should give a s hit about it. As for the commissioner thing, it's a way of giving a title to the person that puts more into this whole thing than about 95% of us. Whether anyone likes Bomis or not doesn't matter... I hope we can all agree on the FACT that he's put a lot of time and energy into this whole thing.

I think Agustus Hagerson should be dodgeballer of the month. He did after all make dodgeball famous in the 1800's.

When Murphy retires he should become commish..... He has apart in two teams that have been in the league and has vital knowledge of being the commish or a few other leagues.

MURPHY RULES Haha, thank you Stein. Dodgeball has been one of the few good things about my college life. However, once I am finally done with school, I don't plan on ever being a part of dodgeball again, unless a pro/college/high school league comes up with a paying position for a head coach. I think there is only one way to decide this... Murphy vs. Bomis at halftime of the national championship game, gladiator style. El Murpho vs. El Baldo - a battle of the ages! (And I do mean ages quite literally!) The above was a joke by the way... Best of luck to Bomis as the leagues first ever commissioner. It will be interesting to see where the league heads with a single person in charge, vs a few hot heads running their mouths on the messageboard. I would have like to have seen this put up to a vote, but I am no longer a team president or captain, so I have no say in that anyways.
