So we at NSU are attempting to break a world record!
I know that we're basically in the middle of nowhere compared to the rest of the dodgeball community, but I thought it would be cool just to let yall all know what Northwestern is up to. THis is the (modified version) of what Yasser sent to the World Record people.
Northwestern State University's (in Louisiana) Dodgeball team will host the largest dodgeball game ever played at one time! This world record-breaking dodgeball match will be held after a football pep-rally which will be held on NSU's football stadium (Turpin stadium). The record now is 1200 people, and we are sure to break the record because last years pep-rally (year 2009) had a total of 1500 people attending with out advertisement. One of our captains (Yasser) has discussed this with the athletic director at NSU, as well as the committee in charge of the pep-rally, and they are willing to help attempt this record as well. In order to insure a record-breaking number of participants, the dodgeball team and NSU will advertise this match throughout the university and the city of Natchitoches.
This event will be open to all students and anyone else who wants to attempt this record. NSU and the dodgeball team will purchase soft dodgeballs to place in the middle of the field. A total of 400-600 balls will be used. (This could be changed since Yasser first sent this out b/c of financial issues and they types of balls the school said we have to use). The match will be recorded on two different cameras from the stadium (2 different views). Since the record is based on the number of people participating during one game, the number of people will be counted as they enter the field and this number will be verified on camera. Once the people are counted, they will split the field and the dodgeballs will be lined up in the middle of the stadium. There will be several referees to insure the game is played safely and fairly (as possible that is).
The jumbo-tron will be used as a PA system that will guide the course of the day’s event. Once everything is set up, a call will be made to rush the field and play the game. The expected number will be around 1500 people participating in this dodgeball match. NSU's dodgeball team wants to hold this event in order to break the record while bringing the city and the university together in a fun and athletic manner. The date of the pep-rally has not been established yet, however once it has been made official, (Yasser) will notify Guinness World Records of the specific time and date. The date of this record breaking event will be near the end of August.
