This isn't exactly as important as the rule changes we're discussing, but it is something we need to talk about Saturday night at the captains meeting. As we attempt to clean up our rules and recruit schools in other states, one of the main things we have to be cognizant of is presenting our brand (in this case, the NCDA) in the best possible way to newcomers. One of the biggest lessons I took from my advertising class (and I'm sure many of you know this too) is that your brand has to be unified across all its different platforms in terms of the "brand name."
We don't have a problem with everyone calling the league the National College Dodgeball Association (or NCDA) but when it comes to the end-of-the-year tournament, we're split on what it's official name is. Last year's tournament at BGSU was marketed as the "National Tournament" and next year WKU will market the tourney as "Nationals." This is what I want everyone to consider before April 2011 gets here: what do we want to call our end-of-the-year tournament?
This might seem like a trivial detail, but clarity is key when it comes to recruiting new schools. We don't want any confusion when new teams or players hear "National Tournament" or "Nationals." Deciding on the official name for our most important tournament will be a big step in further legitimizing the league in the eyes of the rest of the nation.
So captains and alternate captains, before our big meeting gets here, decide what you want: are we done with our first day of the "National Tournament," "Postseason Tournament," "Nationals" or something else? This thread is open for discussion but we won't take an official vote until the captains meeting.
