P.S Sweet the more I make you mad and act like I haven't been there before the more a team throws at me. I'll be honest sweet with 16 seconds left in the CMU game where I ran up the the neutral line and "dropped" a catch that I have attempted, if you call a gorilla gripped balled for 7 feet away "dropped" as I do, It was the first dropped ball I had all year. So keep throwing at me

A Story of Stein. I have now been in the league for 4 years and my first two years I played against Stein and SV, when I played for Delta. Delta and Sv had a huge rivalry and every game was more heated then the last and Jason Stein always stuck in my mind as this kid who was over the top and quite frankly an not a very nice person and I never respected him. Well all changed after transferring to Sv and I now had to play with the guy who is most hated in dodge ball. After a few practices and games with Sv I realized he wasnt the same person I used to play against when he was off the court. He really is a great guy and a great friend and he has a passion for this sport that runs very deep. Yes he is over the top sometimes but its because he loves the sport so much. He is a competitor and he strives for victory. So instead of wasting your time and just pregnant doging, how about step your dodge ball skill up and take him out. Best way to shut him up is to get him out (sometimes haha). Actions speak louder than words, but just so you know, we are coming after that national title and everyone better be prepared. Because Jason Stein and SV aren't changing the way they play and we will bring the noise. Hats off to CMU on a great team win. But be ready.

I joined SV's team late last year and this year when we were prepping for our first game people on the team were talking about how hated Stein was by the rest of the league and I kept asking myself... "How could anyone hate Stein?! He's so nice!" I found that to be untrue on the court. But that's just his competitive spirit for ya.

Before I say this I would like to qualify that Jason and I have always had a firm understanding of each other. To my knowledge I may be the only referee in our leagues history to be able to bottle him up, and I'm certainly one of the few to consistently give him appropriate yellow cards. So this isn't meant as an afront to him...
That being said, this is a league that we and our respective schools spend money on to participate in and uphold. This is not a professional sport, and it is not a legitimately accepted sport. The actions of Jason and several other Saginaw players here and on the court, along with other players and teams in the league, should all be held to the same standard; play fairly, play courteously as possible and play enjoyably. This should not compromise your desire to compete and win. What I see constantly from many Saginaw players is baseless excuses for behavior on the court that players like Jason (notice, I'm not singling him out here, but he knows he's case A of on court actions like this) exhibit, IE; "He's just really competitive". Frankly, that's a piss poor rationalization. We are not a professional league or even a sanctioned collegiate league, where boosters or owners and fans are expecting wins and championships and where every player and their respective teams are putting in massive amounts of time and effort to secure wins, week in week out. Thus, on court behavior similar to that of Rasheed Wallace or Kevin Garnett simply shouldn't be put up with, and that extends to the boards as well. Competitiveness and overt machismo/complaining/disrespectful behavior are not mutually exclusive, especially in a league that respect is all we really have to keep this whole thing going. Everyone should be held to the same standard, and everyone should make an effort to be as respectful to every opposing player and official as possible. Once the bull headed behavior starts, respect is lost... and I guarantee you if this continues like I've seen in the past few months here, this league will slowly but surely unravel.

Past few months its gone on for years... Poor officiating and poor sportsmanship is what this league prides itself on. My actions may not be the greatest all the time but I have never taken cheap shots or put my own biases int he way of making a good call when I have reffed a game. I have seem bomis and many other people take cheap shots at myself and others, not to be mentioned in this forum. I am and the player in the league are hardly the problem , its the people who get hit blatantly and dont go out. Another thing, the game was being played at the slowest of paces and everytime someone got out they complained. I have rarely complained about being out ever. If the ref calls me out I go out.
As was the case when i was wrongly told to go out during a false start. i didnt think I was out but asked the ref twice and both times he said I was out , So i calmly went off the court. It hurts when you find out you weren't out and now you are because you walked off the court. This post will be shorter than I wanted because of class , but in my understanding the player that false starts doesnt go out but rather his captain or something along those lines does? I am not 100% on the rule but I was told I was out ( and then told that was the wrong call but because I had stepped out I was then out for that!! I asked the HEAD ref twice if I was in because I was unsure and he told me both times that I was not.)
I had to sit out one of the most important points in the SV season because of a blown call? Come on man I have a million examples the league needs officiating to be good or even mediocre to stop complaining.
Jack is right he can control me because he'll give me a yellow card or explain his call and it is for the most part legit. I will then stop complaining after he ether explains or gives me the yellow card and thats that. Its like that in every sport, you'll see a guy throw his hands up in the air and the ref will yell at him or explain to him about the call and things will go away. BUT THESE BLOWN CALLS HAD NO EXPLANATION and were poor calls. So the issue is the reffing clearly if I am fine with jack and for the most part bomis ( yes I say it he's not horrible , not great ether but at least he knows the rules.)
This is probably poor internet etiquette as I am writing it in a very short period of time and quick fashion, but Jack makes a good point but i still think that is not our main issue.

Although I cannot vouch for what occurred during you game, I can say that by reading your postings and others that Spencer has the right idea. Know the rule book. Your call on being out in a false start was a wrong one, on a false start the captain goes out. Another false start the alternate captain goes out. The false start causes your team to be down a player from the get go. Just like any sport that doesn't have official un-baised refs, there's gonna be bad calls. We as players need to accept a bad call, not argue and go off the court. If your called out on something like a false start and your not a captain. Then you shouldn't blame the official. Blame your captain. Seeing as how the captains and alternates are the only ones that can talk to the refs. Your captain should have stepped up and walled off or explained the new rule to the official. We can all argue about bad calls all day. But what's done is done. The one thing that does stand true is that if your a player that blows up every time over a blown call or a call you feel you got jipped on, that causes the ref to basically call you out. He's going to single you out everytime and do it to piss you off. He has the power and he knows you don't. You can't do anything about it. I'm not saying that your points aren't valid, because they are. You make great points on needing refs and blown calls I completely agree with you there. But also the more people blow up the more your going to get singled out. It's a lose lose. The bigger man will win every time though. Just on a bad call walk off and get them next time. Count on your team to get you back in, and get them next time. Because as long as this keeps happening we can forget about Dodgeball getting any further then it is right now.
