I looked at the NCDA rulebook for an answer to this question and found nothing regarding it, so I wanted to get an official ruling on it. Like all teams we are struggling with money. The Sport Club Council here on campus recently held a presentation of fund raising, donations, and sponsorships. One idea that was brought up was sponsor logos on jerseys. Is putting sponsor logos on jerseys prohibited? If not, this is a great way to get money to pay for jerseys and travel costs that most teams could use.

I don't really know what the official ruling would be on this, since it is not in the rule book I would say it is ok. In the rules section IV.i.i it states "School logos and names or original logos are permitted on the uniform." I'd say that a smaller logo either on the pocket area or on the sleeve would be fine since most shirts already have the original manufacterer logo on them in that area anyway. As long as we don't turn into Nascar where the entire uniform is covered I think it's probably ok, but again I have no official ruling power.

If you manage to land a sponsor, you should definitely be able to put that sponsor's logo on your jerseys. And since it's not outlawed, go for it. And and as long as it doesn't conflict with the stuff that needs to be there, like player numbers, no one should really care. But ya, this doesn't need to lead to nascar.
You should be careful of your school's guidelines tho: for instance, DePaul Dodgeball could get sponsored by bars and restaurants pretty easily, but the DePaul Club Sports program prohibits it so we can't pursue those sponsorships.

You also don't want to pursue sponsors that conflict with your school's sponsors. For example, WKU is sponsored by Pepsi, which means a Coca Cola sponsorship is out of the question. Felix, didn't you say you had to give the intramural department of list of potential sponsors so they could approve them?

A good spot for a logo is underneath the numbers on the back.

Yea in my search for sponsors for the National Tournament I had to send a list of anyone I could potentially even consider maybe talking about getting a sponsorship from to the university attorney so they could approve the list. Some were acceptable and some weren't. Pretty much anything they sell on campus at any place is acceptable, in my experience. We are a Pepsi and Russell school, but I am able to ask for an Underarmour or Nike sponsorship because we sell those brand shirts in the bookstore on campus.

Well if you look at the Premier League, they have sponsors where other leagues have their team numbers. Doesnt seem to be an issue with them.

Sweet is right...you can laugh but all professional soccer does it (other than national teams). Like the Chicago Fire says Best Buy on the front, or Chelsea says Samsung. And if you want to take the WNBA seriously, they moved for having the same thing as professional soccer. The example would be that the Phoenix team has LifeLock written on the front.
This might be something to consider if people are having trouble raising money, but just like it was brought up earlier, many schools do not allow some types of sponsors.

Well we have to have any sponsor that puts logos on our jerseys approved by the University, but I'm pretty sure they will accept most sponsors with-in reason. To add onto what Felix said with the Nike/Under Armour/Russell thing, our athletic department is Adidas, but we can get sponsorships from any company because we are not under that contract, but we can't do Coke. And as for placement: I'm looking for on the bottom of the sleeve, maybe one or two total. I agree though, we shouldn't go full NASCAR with it.

Hmm, Adidas gives us 50% off any apparel item just for being a registered club team. Look into that at your school
