Well after this year at bgsu it was alot of fun. i love dodgeball and ended up getting pretty good at it, but sadly i have to leave bgsu and go to a school closer to home. so i have a question for some of the captains or alumni here. how do i start a successful dodgeball club. they have dodgeball intramurals but no club to travel. so if you can leave a little post for some advice because i do plan on starting the club once i get there. and how do i get the team official with the ncda? sorry if these are dumb questions :/ thanks

Not dumb questions, try AWESOME questions! More teams in the league is always a good thing.
First you will probably have to talk with the Club Sport Administrators for your school. They will be able to let you know how to start a club. At Grand Valley you have to have at least three student members (President, Vice President, and Treasurer) and a "faculty advisor". Then you have to fill out a form about what your club is and what you will do and stuff. In order to play (or even exist) in the fall next year you will want to fill out the forms and stuff now so you can be approved for the fall. After you get those approved you're a real club yay! And now you can start looking into recruiting people. Recruiting is the most important part of the process because if you cant get any to join your club then you wont have a team. Recruiting is also harder then it should be though, people get lazy in college and don't want to do anything unless it's really worth their time (which Dodgeball is of course but they don't know that yet). So basically you have to find a way to make people really excited about Dodgeball in the short amount of time that you will likely have there interest for. At GV we have a day in the first week of school called "campus life night" where all of the school's clubs set up tables with info about their club and sign up sheets for people to join, this is how we get most of our recruits besides word of mouth.
Also, you will need to schedule gym time for practices. This will likely be done through the facilities management but the club sports administrators will be able to let you know who to talk to. This is the same as the forms too, the sooner the better since other clubs and events will be looking to schedule gym space as well.
Good luck, it's not as hard as it sounds and once you do all of this once you'll be set!

I actually have a copy of the NIRSA guide and if you are talking about Walsh University in North Canton, they already have a dodgeball club team listed. Not sure if they are now defunct, though.

Looking back at it, the information was last updated in 2009, but the contact is Jack McBride: (330)224-4743. You should talk to him first.

Yeah if you just talk to your schools club sports department they will lead you in the right direction. At UK we have a club sports fair where each club just sets up a table to tell people about ourselves. The reason myself and about half of the team got started was during "midnight dodgeball" at our rec center. It was the first week of school and you know a lot of stuff is going on to get kids excited about college. The rec center was open pretty late that night so the dodgeball team took advantage of it. There were like 4 courts of games going on but only 1 of them was using the rubber balls (the other courts used the foam balls). The guys on the team at the time basically watched the court with the rubber balls for guys who could throw hard and they would get their phone number and asked if they wanted to play. Hope that helps you out a little. Good luck dude.
