I know the rush has been the subject of debate for almost a year now. But something that bothers me is, and i think could become a much bigger problem if the rush stays the same is False starts.
Right now i think the rule is that if a commits a false start then the Captain is out.
I understand that this rule is strict so that teams are taught to try to avoid false start as much as possible.
But I think it's unnecessary for this rule to be as strict as it is. Even in National Track meets there is a permitted 1 false start, and then the next false start is DQ'ed (Usian Bolt taught me that) Not to mention the statistical analysis by Bomis that the opening rush doesn't really affect the game very much.
Personally i would like to see a rule that didn't even send someone who false starts out just prevents him/her from running.
Think about it if someone false starts, they were obviously one of the better runners going for a ball. if you keep them on the court so that it is still a 15 vs 15 game but don't let him/her run for a ball. That seems fair to me.
I just am just guessing that unless the opening rush is changed (not saying that it should. . since Kent hasn't tried it yet) there are going to be A Lot more false starts because people are going to realize the kill or be killed mentality behind the new rush.
And personally i don't want to deal with the he said she said get out because of a false start. Especially if it is the rule involving Captains being out. (Yeah I'm biased, because i'm a captain and i want to play the game.)
Thoughts?
