So there was a lot of argued calls on both sides today during SVSU/GVSU game... my thoughts? I can understand a disagreement with a call, but stopping play 3 or 4 times for a simple call is a bit much. Let us not forget that we are playing in front of a crowd here... Thats a chance for a big let down for fans watching a bunch of grown men call time out to argue simple calls. It also causes the game to drag. Also... if the referee's call is final, why argue? I don't understand that in other sports either. haha. You can plead your case all you want...It will only result in 3 things... the call stands as is, ejections, or technicals... or in this case... yellow and red cards. Refs aren't perfect, so they wont see everything, and they cant call everything correctly. Its just a game people.

Also, there was a lot of loud swearing going on towards the refs and towards other players. The captains and leaders of teams need to eliminate this, or at least reduce it to a minimum. When we play games we are playing in front of parents and kids as well as college students. Swearing and arguing with the refs will only result in lower game attendance and a bad reputation for our sport.

lol ive been saying this for a very long time till we get actual refs this will not go away. I dont know how many times I saw a ref make a call because an oposing team calls it. Take for instance the time when svsu had balls over. The ref that made the call made it because of a player behind him called it. He had a player directly infront of him and clearly could not see. Like the whole game i was already out and was sitting right next to this line, the ball clearly hit the line. The ref still made the call even though they did not see. Then i heard the comment well I missed one earlier. That was his response. I dont know if this was because he was from GV, but as much as I would like to think no, many people on sv thought that. These calls that are being argued by everyone, change the outcome of the point. Thats why they argue. No one likes to lose. It would make it easier if we actually had paid refs. Its not hard to raise money to pay them and train them. Again I know its hard to see everything that goes on, but paid refs will reduce the arguing 100%.

Everyone knows where your coming from Janick, but look what happened at Nationals. We need to find guys from other schools or former players who would be willing to travel to games and ref for a couple hours. All you would have to do is toss them $40 or so and then you will have legit refs who know what they are doing.
And I'm not saying go get guys who are going to be incompetent and not know what the hell they are doing. I'm talking about going and getting Jimmy Stokes or Jimmy Curtis, or someone along those lines who have played and would be willing to come ref and actually know what they are talking about.

I actually argued a call against MSU this season and showed Stokes (the ref) what I was talking about. This couldn't have happened if gameplay was still going on and that balls over could have cost us the point, but Stokes overturned his original call. Therefore, pleading with the ref can create different results

It's true, I ended up having to talk to the secondary ref on the other side of the court and I went with his call since he had a better view on it.

Isn't that how its supposed to go though? The nearest ref should be making the call unless he has no way of seeing that particular play.

What I'm saying is that I made a call that I actually watched happen as the head ref and he didn't make a call in general until I talked it over with him.
