so i wanted to start this thread in hear first to get an idea of what everyone thinks about maybe making this a rule.
i started thinking about it after the tourney this weekend at MSU, and is kinda something i have thought about since i first came into this league. i know that i myself as well as most of my team and some others i have talked to on other teams agree with me on the this idea of why should it be legal for players to wear those wide receiver gloves in matches since it offers advantage in catching due to the sticky substance pads that are on the palms of each glove. its my thinking that these gloves should not be allowed in play. i know that im probably going to be stirring up a hornets nest with this post since from what i have seen basically every team has at least one player who plays with these gloves besides maybe Moody and DePaul but im going to do this anyways.

My understanding was that gloves was a way to save people some money. I know personally I could get a pair for legit recievers gloves for free but I never really cared for them when playing. Rather than going out and buying tape that costs $4-$5 a roll you could just get a pair of gloves and those would last you a few years.
On the other hand it would be cool to NOT allow the gloves and make it all about players' hands and the skills they possess without the additional help of the gloves.

Well I think there's also a drawback to using gloves when it comes to throwing. The increased stickyness will create more friction between the ball and the gloves so the throw should be less effective. Also, it doesn't create an unfair advantage considering every player on a team could wear them, it's all by choice. As long as the gloves don't leave a residue on the balls I see no problem with gloves.

Plus if you are a real catcher you dont catch with your hands. I don't think wearing these gloves when balls are thrown 70+ help that much because so much of your body is used in catching. Also anyone can use them so its not unfair.

Real catchers can catch a ball away from their body, using just their hands. Gloves helped me a little bit but they did take away from my throwing quite a bit.

I dunno McCarthy, I use hands and/or body (depending on what the situation calls for) and I'd say I'm a pretty decent catcher.

Here is my view on what makes a good catcher. Anyone can catch a ball that goes right into the bread basket but a great catcher is one that can pull one in that is near their feet or at their head. Hell, even our worst catcher can catch a ball that goes into his stomach, but does that make him a good catcher if it happens often enough? I dont think so.

I agree, but what are you supposed to do if they stupidly throw into the breadbasket? That's why I think a good catcher needs to be able to do both.

I have to agree with sweet on this one Sam. Anyone should be able to catch it when it hits them in the bread basket. It takes a truly great catcher to make the onea that don't hit him in the gut. The one where your catching it with your hands alone.

Mike, I'm not saying that a truly great catcher can only catch with their breadbasket, I'm saying they need to be able to do both haha

I kinda see this as a non-issue. Sure the gloves help a bit with catching, but as we see every weekend in football, even the best gloves don't always help.
