So as of today the plan is for McCarthy and I to take over the podcast. At least I think that's the plan. I will for sure be doing it, and I believe Mike will too as long as his plans haven't changed (if he doesn't do it I'll wrangle up some of my teammates or something to help.) Anyways, what would you like us to talk about this season? I know the podcast has always had talks about issues, game recaps, game previews, stuff like that. I'd personally like to do a season preview podcast in early September, but this podcast is for you guys, so what would you like us to do? EDIT 7/17/2012 Okay, so here are some ideas I came up with while watching some SportsNation on ESPN. Basically we'll talk about issues in dodgeball, recaps, previews, etc etc similar to what Raymer, Felix, Alex, Zac, and the DePaul gang did, but I also thought we could try this- using social media in the podcast. I was thinking something along these lines: polls on either the Average Joe's Podcast Facebook Page ( www.facebook.com/averagejoespodcast ) or the official website (if that's okay with you Zigmas) or both, using facebook and twitter (@avgjoepodcast) as ways for other people besides us to get their opinion in if people would like. Basically turn the show into a less annoying, more dodgeball oriented, SportsNation podcast. Let me know if people would be interested in this approach.

We can integrate a poll on the website easily, using a wordpress plugin. Just let me know. I think we could at least list the options of the facebook poll and have a link leading to that poll on facecool.
Also, DePaul has some material we recorded just after nationals, but only ten minutes of usable audio. We might get together and record some and release a teaser. That's a big maybe since i'm the only one that wants to edit it.

that would be awesome Zig thanks! also if you (or whomever is in charge of the NCDA facebook account) could possibly promote the AJP facebook page that'd be sweet too.

That's Jardine so you would have to ask him after he get back from Basic.
Today i'm putting together an inventory of NCDA assets, which lists contact information of who has control of what, and just to get a better bearing on the brand reach.

okay, so the plan is for me, McCarthy, and Mike Van Ermen (fellow Spartan, he's our team's president) to start taping soonish. Like the next couple weeks. We're doing a season preview podcast. So if you guys can tell your captains/presidents to send me the information that I requested on the NCDA Captain's Group on Facebook that'd be awesome. Also tell your players to like the Average Joes Podcast Facebook page and follow us on twitter @avgjoepodcast so we can hear from you! The more you guys give to us, the better we can make the podcast.

22 is up, lemme know what y'all think. Sorry if it sucks, its our first time doing one of these.
23 will be taped sometime in November and deal with recapping the stuff that went down in the BGSU, Maryland, MSU, and UK Invites, along with the BotV and UK/WKU match, along with some other stuff.

Good work. A couple of opinions:
Both Sam and Mike said "they" a lot when referring to teams. I think it would have been easier to follow the conversation if you referred to the teams by name more, since there were at least 4-5 sections where I couldn't remember what was being talked about.
I felt it a tad long at 55 min, maybe a shorter podcast would have been easier to follow as well. Or even splitting the recording might have worked too.
The previews were great to listen too, I really enjoy the Sam Hiller formula of discussion and stat inserts. Something I'm way to lazy to do myself most of the time.
Edit: I'll try hunting down the intro music from Raymer and having a DePaul alum (Tony V) record a new into. He's got a good radio voice.

22 is up, lemme know what y'all think. 1. Cut to 30:00. 2. Budget your time - know how much you want to devote to previews, rundowns, current events, etc. Be willing to deviate, but have a schedule and stick to it, as it forces you to tighten segments up. 3. Listen to sports radio, Foster & Valenti on 97.1 is probably the best local example for you guys. It sounded like NPR. Doesn't mean that you need a shtick, but 4. Don't apologize so much; have opinions.

Thanks for the tips guys.
We'll probably start cutting the podcasts in half to 30ish minutes, but make two podcasts at basically the same time so people can listen to them whenever. And yeah we'll try and liven the next ones up!
Thanks too Zig for trying to find the intro, because I have the intro with the original voiceovers but I didn't wanna use it because it has Alex and Zac for the hosts (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I really liked the podcast. I think that more frequent but less lengthy podcasts would work really well. I do like that you hit all the teams that played in games and tried to give substance to each one. This could allow you to focus on one area of the country for a short podcast and run through those schools results, schedules and predictions. Ex. IL and MI breakdown. Then OH and KY. Followed with East Coast schools. (And and outliers I missed) If each one was 10 minutes...should be easy to manage plus call up a few schools to get some good quotes.
