Hey guys, after the last email/posting made by Zig about the injury reports I started to think about the future of our beloved league. I was just curious when everyone is graduating and maybe leaving their "duties" of the league.
Zig and Sam have been handling a most (if not all) of the website stuff and they are of course doing this because they're just good people, no compensation of any kind. Bomis continues to help the league in its development. Zig also does all the rulebook stuff. Also Zig is the man. I used to help a lot with recruiting of new schools and teams, but all that kind of fell away after our current eastern expansion was complete.
I recently read a journal article that talked about athlete's motivation and how it's an intrinsic value, instead of being an extrinsic influence. Basically people are motivated to work hard and emerge as leaders regardless of the situation they're in or the people who try to motivate them. It's something that's inside them. This can be seem throughout our league. No one asked any of our league leaders/administrators to step up, they just did it because of the love of the game and their intrinsic motivation to take charge.
To keep the league in the direction it's going we need to assure people who have such leadership values step up and take charge. I know, as hard as I may try otherwise, I will always be a part of this league as long as they want me (as some sort of administrator, long after my jersey is hung up on the wall). It's safe to say Bomis isn't going anywhere soon, Raymer continues to help out, McCarthy too. These type of people are the ones who we rely on because they do not give up.
If nothing else, I just hope this post helps to reiterate the often unsung "thanks" that everyone who keeps this league afloat deserves.
