I have another rule I want to get some feedback on!
So I have seen this happen in football a couple times and (while it wouldn't be the same situation) it would be interesting if we could create a rule for it in our sport.
So player A gets hit with a ball and the ball launches up into the air out of bounds. Player A or another player jumps out of bounds and tosses the ball back into play before the ball or player touches the ground. Another player on his team catches the ball. What happens?
I feel like it should be a team catch and the player that jumped out of bounds should be still "in" the target should be "in" and another player from the outline should be "in". It is a very risky and difficult play so I think it should have a reward.

According to the rules now, Player A would be out because they went out of bounds. I think, right now, this would be too difficult to enforce because we don't have enough officials to determine whether the player had touched the ground before the pass was made or not. I like the idea for rewarding the players for doing crazy-cool plays, but I just don't think we could enforce it to the degree it deserves right now. Just my opinion though.

This is actually already covered in the Casebook.
This would also apply to a teammate diving out of bounds. But the difference to Dylan's is that the Passer is out, because they make a boundary violation. I think if we included a reward, like the NDL's suicide rule, the rules could get a little messy.

I'v seen this play happen before my freshman year. As long as the player is still air born when he passes off the ball, and left the air still in bounds it should be a team catch.

Yeah I understand that it would still be a team catch. But I think the player that jumped out of bounds should still be in because then there would a reason to risk jumping out of bounds. Right now there is no reason to take the risk because the best that could happen from the play is an even 1 for 1.

An even 1 for 1 is better than a -1 though. I mean, if it looks like you're already going to be out, you might as well try like heck to make sure you're at the very least replaced on the court, rather than just accepting your fate and having the rest of your team play a man down. While, yes, it is unfortunate that you would be out, it is for the good of the team to make sure you're replaced if you have the opportunity.

I think a player should be able to leap out of bounds for a ball and if he can secure it before touching the ground, it be ruled a catch. I know this is not in accordance with
3.4.41.1 Catching- "A catcher must maintain one point of bodily contact in bounds in order for a catch to count"
but shouldn't the player be rewarded for a play like that?

Good point Felix. I guess I am happy with the rule how it is, it allows "out of bounds" to remain an absolute call.

Exactly, if I get hit and the ball is going out of bound I'm either 1. Out or 2. I make a play on the ball passing it back in for a team catch and get a player back in. Hell maybe even myself if there is no one in the outline and I can get back in due to the intimidate catch rule. It would be my benefit to go after that ball no matter what
