Tournament:
JMU's Big East-Appalachian Super Tournament or more aptly named BEAST III.
Date:
February 22, 2014
Location:
The ever so picturesque campus of James Madison University. More specifically, the University Recreation Center on campus.
Address of UREC:
701 Driver Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801
Recommended Parking Lots:
Convo D or G, D8, C9, P
web.jmu.edu/parking/parkingmap.pdf << Parking/Building Map
Look for "University Recreation Center" if you are parking in a Convo lot or D8, just follow the paths towards the front of UREC. If you are parking in C9 or P, you will have to walk through the tunnel that cuts under I-81 and you should see the entrance off to your left.
Teams Attending:
James Madison University[JMU] - VA - Confirmed: Host
Towson University[TU] - MD
Virginia Commonwealth University[VCU] - VA
Kent State University[KSU] - OH
Miami University[MU] - OH
Pennsylvania State University[PSU] - PA
University of Maryland[UMD] - MD
Tournament Fees:
Last year, our tournament fees are $30. Please expect that fees will be around that amount for this year's tournament.
Places to Stay:
Best place to stay in Harrisonburg in respect to the university recreation center, the parties, and closest off the highway, you want to stay in the Days Inn off of 81. It's 5-minute walking distance from the gym, so driving it's literally seconds. Rates are $63 a night there, a few teams stayed there last year.
If you are looking for literally the cheapest hotel possible, I would check the Motel 6 on East Market. I'm pretty sure the last time I checked, it was $39 a night there. A little bit more of a drive, but it isn't bad at all.
Social:
There will most likely be a social following this event at one of our member's apartment or townhouse.
Schedule:
We are looking to improve the way our schedule is made every year, and the first thing that want to inform teams is to CONFIRM your attendance in advance and please let us know as soon as possible when you can/cannot attend. Keep us updated with anything in regards to your attendance because we want to know how to organize for your arrival. We also sent out a match-up form to all teams in attendance to check off every team that they wanted to face at JMU, and we tried to accommodate those needs as much as possible.
Our goal every year is to make BEAST the largest regular season tournament outside of Nationals. It really is an unreal experience having that many teams at JMU, it's a treat for your team, our team, and our fan base. As mentioned by some of you in past threads, we can get a good-sized crowd for our matches. We welcome fans from your respective schools as well, they just need to check into the front desk at UREC, and they will be able to get in at no charge.
We will be encouraging all other teams to come to Harrisonburg for a great experience by setting up a format that allow a team to play teams they wouldn't get to face in a normal weekend.
Match schedule will be released closer to the event.
Shirts:
We will be doing tournament shirts, and promise a lot less hell this time with them. It took us the longest time to order them, so please have shirt numbers and sizes in advance when we release the 2014 Info Packet.
Lunch:
Pizza always seems to work, so expect that to be lunch for the day of the event. We also have many dining options on and off campus.
