If every captain and ref could make an effort to either read or at least know the rulebook I feel that would be beneficial. In our overtime game yesterday, the refs started out believing OT to be a ten minute game before we informed them otherwise. In addition, for the duration of the OT period the shot clockers treated it as regulation and used a 15 clock for six players and a ten clock for five or less, as opposed to the uniform ten clock throughout OT. If every captain and ref were to read the rulebook we could avoid situations like this in the future.

This is absolutely mandatory. If you are a captain, or if you even think about volunteering to be a head ref you need to know the rules front to back. Also you need to be confident enough about the rules to be able to make the right call in front of someone who will probably be screaming at you.

Agreed with Dylan, if you're going to Officiate dodgeball, you should have experience and know the rules. Even the new ones, which are highlighted in gray to help you out.
On a side note, I believe it's the duty of the host to work on making sure a good Officiating staff is locked down. Yes, sometimes we have to rely on other teams to do it, but I really believe this burden should fall on the host to provide and arrange.

Not there this weekend, but this is a message for basically every tournament: this early in the season it should be captains reffing completely.

Yeah sorry it was our team. They weren't really clear on the time part of the overtime rules so I had to correct them. One time problem.

Every Captain in the entire league is responsible for knowing the rulebook front to back. If they don't, no one else on their team is going to go through that book and learn every rule.
