Per Dylan Fettig:
3.1.3 Scoring - Best 3 of 5 points, no time limit. Expedites games, game isn’t over until it is over.
Rationale: 3 of 5 was chosen because currently comebacks of 3 or greater are unlikely.

2 SEASONS ago at a UMD(I think) tournament VCU's entire strategy against JMU was to stall the game to a 0-0 regular time score and (attempt to)beat them 6-6 in ot because beating them 15 v 15 with a team full of 1st year players was inconceivable.
I'm aware that many ideas are being traded to promote more exciting play and avoid stalling but with this rule I personally don't see how the new guy school ever beats the veteran/drastically more experienced/deep roster schools.

Another point to where I don't think this style is ideal for our league is if you look at the CMU/JMU semi-finals match at Nationals last month. Both games that resulted in points being scored took a fair amount of time, same with the last point that was essentially stalled out to take the match to overtime. Under this format, I think that match goes to 5 points, 9 times out of 10. That means that match is probably looking at anywhere from 60-90 minutes to produce a victor.
Sure this format gives teams no reason to actually stall, but in a match like that where both teams are so afraid of making a mistake, the game is going to be slow regardless and take close to the amount of time that nearly two matches would take under the current format.

Which brings up another point. Increased difficulty with scheduling. And the increased likelihood that some teams will get extra unscheduled rest time while waiting for a long match while the team in the match will likely have to play back to back with little to no break

This would be a perfect rule if we were to reduce our rosters down to 8 or even 10. But with 15v15, I just see this as a scheduling nightmare. I've never seen an OT point go longer than 5 minutes, but that's because it is only 6v6. If we were to reduce the roster to 8 or 10, I would consider this after some field testing, but as of now I am not in favor of this rule purely from a scheduling standpoint.

I'm not fond of this rule because we're already proposing a blocking redefinition in order to create more exciting play. This creates less excitement in my eyes and potentially messes up a teams entire day at a tournament.
Had Towson and MSU been a 3 out of 5 match it would have ended before ae got our first point (still hate you for all those catches Colin). Towson managed to get that first point though and carry it over to our match with BGSU. Had we not had that opportunity our mindset as a team would have been much different and our chances to make our first trip to the quarterfinals been significantly reduced.
Playing with a game clock and unlimited potential is just better in my mind. Plus I hate "best of" series. That should only be for baseball in my eyes and leagues like the NBA and NHL should be "win or go home" but thats just me

If the blocking rule gets changed to whats proposed I don't see a need for this proposal anymore to be honest. I would save it in our back pocket as an idea to bring back up later.

I've always been a believer that 20 minutes instead of 25 a half is plenty, considering the last five minutes seem to be stall ball a lot of the time anyways.

I've always been a believer that 20 minutes instead of 25 a half is plenty, considering the last five minutes seem to be stall ball a lot of the time anyways. I'm worried that the last 5 minutes of any half would be stall ball, 20 mins or not. Thats why I think the proposal in this thread is a pretty good solution. ncdadodgeball.proboards.com/thread/868/3-early-halftime-change-minutes
