So us here at GV want to have some kind of JV tournament. I know MSU showed some interest in this event, so this would be hosted either at GV or MSU. I figured you'd bring your JV teams and if there are freshman on varsity they could still play at this tournament. All we're hoping is to give those JV guys some game time. We're hoping to do this February 20th (the week after MDC) and get anyone that's interested. Last year it was GVSU and MSU and this year we're hoping to get more people interested. This is really open to anyone that wants to bring either a new team or teams with JV players.

Me and Ian have been trying to set on up at MSU actually hahaha. And we had picked the 20th as the date for the game haha. Yes SVSU would love to have a JV tournament. We are in, just let me double check with the team at practice this week.

why not at GV? I don't think they have not had a home game yet this season and it doesn't seem fair that the other games were at MSU and SVSU. It might be easier for MSU to travel west and SVSU to travel south to meet in the middle.
Also, the 2 previous Sundays at GV are Intramural Dodgeball on the 6th, the Annual "Save our Balls" Dodgeball tournament for College Against Cancer and Relay for Life on the 13th, why not have JV Dodgeball (or something bigger on the 20th?) It could be Dodgeball month for GV. Just a suggestion

Because its a 2 hrs 16 mins / 121.79 miles to GVSU from SVSU as apposed to 1 hour 26 mins / 86.77 miles to East Lansing, of course I am going to want it to be at MSU. Not to mention Ian and I had already been planning this to be at MSU a month ago.

Well when you figure something out e-mail us at gvsu.dodgeball@gmail.com. I don't come here regularly enough and I'd really love to know when something's going down.

We've talked to MSU and offered them first crack to host this JV thing, and it looks like its asking them too much to find facilities that weekend (Ian mentioned that College Gameday was going to be in EL the morning of the 19th).
So we're looking to do it at GVSU, in one of our off gyms. We're aiming for Saturday, Feburary 19th. Times TBA. GVSU JV, SVSU JV, and MSU JV have all shown interest. I'm looking to announce the specifics on Monday or Tuesday, in a new thread, and will send emails to the contacts we have for your schools.
Our main limitation right now is we will probably be doing this in a one court venue. We'll stagger the times so that visiting teams are not sitting around for hours in between games. Officiating and other administration should be easily covered by GVSU, but if your team captains want to come, the more the merrier. But this looks like it has a really good shot of happening.
Is everyone available for that Sunday as well if we have to push back a day to get facilities?

What I'm promising is the same as last year: every team that comes gets two games. Last year that was just two games total, but if SVSU, GVSU, and MSU all play, that's a round robin of three total games.
We'll probably have the facilities to support a fourth team (still two games each -> five games total) if we can find one. CMU doesn't to my knowledge, have a JV team, but any captain of a very new team that wants to come up to Grand Valley in two weeks, that would be excellent.

Does Ferris State University still have an active team? If you can't find a fourth, that may be a good tournament to introduce them to the league. I know they had tried to get their stuff together for this season.

All of our facilities for Feb. 19/20 are booked. I know a lot of hs athletic directors in the Grand Rapids area, so we'll probably look to do it at a high school main gym not far from our campus. Just need one gym, and we'll have plenty of guys who can help this event.
I'll keep you guys informed, but this all has to happen really quickly, and I'll let you guys know if we hit any major snag and have to push back beyond this weekend. I really don't think it will be a problem though, unless they want $500 or something to use their gym for a day.

I sent out an email to 11 GR-area athletic directors this morning. I told them we're looking to have space for a JV tournament scheduled no later than Wednesday.
We're expecting GVSU JV, MSU JV, SVSU JV right now, but if you're the captain of a new team, and would be interested in bringing a team to this event, contact us at gvsu.dodgeball@gmail.com. There are great benefits to coming to events like this, which is to say, we can bend NCDA rules a bit if we need to in order to help a team that can only bring, say, seven players or whatever.
GVSU/MSU/SVSU are likely going to play full 15 on 15s and 50 minute games against each other, but I don't think that means we're going to exclude teams that can't meet the NCDA minimum 10 players. We can be flexible here. This is an excellent experience opportunity for new teams who want to play before Nationals or who don't think it's reasonable to make nationals this year, but want to play a game to help start a club.
Waiting to hear back, but we won't hang you guys out. If nothing is scheduled by Friday afternoon (the 11th), we're not going to do it on the weekend of Feb. 19-20. This will give teams at least 8 days to work out ride situations. If that happens, we'll push back to sometime after spring break.

Blah. Things aren't looking good.
I have one more thing to check before I say Grand Valley doesn't have available facilities this weekend. I have a meeting with our intramurals head. They want to use our balls for an IM tournament on the same day we want to use their gym. So we'll see what happens there.
By Friday, I'll know if GVSU will be able to host a JV tournament or not.

I know you guys would be driving all the way to SV again the 2nd time this year but I am confident we would be able to host it. Almost 100% if we push it back a weekend

Okay, I just got the word that we will be able to host on the weekend of the 19th/20th. We will be sharing court space and dodgeballs with our IM program, but they rented out the entire arena and rec gym for the whole weekend, which is why we couldn't get it initially.
The hours available are between 12-6 PM on both days. It's more likely that we will have the whole time on Saturday, February 19. We are dependent on the intramural programs' enrollment numbers, so I can't say for sure that we have a day until Monday afternoon. But I can tell you for certain that GVSU is going to host the 2nd annual JV Tournament this weekend.
I will send out emails to captains shortly. A second email will come on Monday with the court times and locations.
