This post is going to be one of the places that I use to plan/update the University of Kentucky Invitational. Which will take place on January 28th 2012.
Right now I have a 6 team cap on it due to the limited gym space that we have. If I am able to upgrade our facilities to more courts I might add a few more teams in. (Definitely will try because a lot of teams I would like to come are not able to right now. I would like to have 8, 12 or 16, and yes, I like to shoot for the stars.)
With the current teams that are going we will have two pools that consist of 3 teams a piece. Those teams will play the other two teams in their prospective pool. With the Championship game being played by the two winners of each pool. The third place game will be played by the two teams that are second in their pool. The fifth place game will be played be the last two teams left. In the event of tied results the team that has scored the most combined points for the duration of the tournament will receive the higher bid. (If that is a tie, then we shall result to a coin toss with the team that traveled the furthest calls it. Winner receives higher bid.)
I am yet to determine who is in what pools. I will talk to the participating teams and I will attempt to schedule the games/pools to best help those teams who are traveling in the morning of the tournament.
The teams that have committed to the tournament are:
University of Kentucky (UK)
University of Louisville (UL)
University of Miami OH (MU)
James Madison University (JMU)
Kent State University (KSU)
Bowling Green State University (BGSU)
The teams I have on "Stand-by" as I try and add courts are:
Western Kentucky University (Priority #1)
DePaul University (Priority #1)
Ohio State University (Priority #2)
Western Illinois (Priority #2)
The entry fee into the tournament is currently set at $100 (However, I will probably be able to knock it down to $75 if I can get the courts for free. But plan on $100.)
As with last year, we will be giving out t-shirts to teams who enter. A trophy will be given to the winning team. We will also provide a ton of pizza for teams that show up the night before and want to get together for a social (No drinking at the social because it is on campus)
I believe the Red Roof Inn provides cheap hotels which is about 5-8 minutes from campus. (I will post more soon.)
Paid refs are being considered, however we have struggled with that. (WKU-OSU match last year) So, I might call upon the teams that aren't playing to ref.
If you have any questions (or complaints because I know we all have a couple we don't want everyone to hear.) message me and I will respond to the best of my ability!
