I would be cognizant of a few limitations.
1) Your wallets. An extra night is an extra few hundred bucks of hotels, food and gasoline. 2) Your arms. Especially you guys who are playing 5, 6, 7 games as it is. 3) Your time. Most teams have to block out Friday through Sunday as it is for a two-day event. Turning it into Thursday - Sunday is pushing it.

Yeah I think Friday is out of the quetion since I'm sure most people have class that day, and I know our school doesn't give out excused absences for club sports (sadly). As much as I'd like to make it an all-weekend thing, it's gonna be impossible with the 8-9 hour drive facing the Michigan teams. Plus, like Bomis said, throwing another night of hotel and food can be quite pricey.

Ugh, the drive to the Kentucky Invite was bad enough the past years I dont think I could do it and then have to play dodgeball as soon as we got there Friday Night. Imagine how WP would feel.

Yea while I was bored in my Accounting class tonight I started to draw up a rough schedule of events for day 1 of 2011 Nationals. There are a few options: Option 1: We could start at 10am with the Skills Challenge, have the All-Star game at 11am, then start the actual round robin games at 12:30. We'll have four courts, I talked with the sports club department today. We should be done with all the games around 8, if we have 16 teams (the 13 from this year, plus NSU, UK, and UofL). Option 2: We could start with the All-Star game at 10am, and have the Skills Challenge during the game on another court and continueing until 11:30. Then the games will start at 11:30 and be done around 7pm. Option 3: We start the games 10am, play 2 rounds and have the All-Star games and Skills Challenge at 12:30 then resume games at 1:45. It would wrap up around 7 also.
I'm also meeting with the Student Government Association and Student Organizations Office next week to see if they will help with expenses. They have a reputation for helping with this type of big student-run event. Also I'm paying a visit to the Dining Office to see if we would be able to get everyone a card into our all-you-can-eat buffet thing on campus for a very discounted price. I know GVSU has one on there campus, we ate at it for last year's nationals, but it's called Fresh Food Company. But as things develop I'll keep you updated.
If anyone has any questions, concerns, ideas, or suggestions just let me know! I'm open to ideas and will help answer any question you have.

Option 3. I really liked our schedule for Nat this year, with that nice 3 hour break in between. I would love fitting in some allstar action and skills challenging in between games.

I also like option 3. The Postseason tournament should be 1 part solid competition, 1 part NBA All-Star special, and 1 part celebration of this crazy sport and organization we've managed to build from the ground up. My only caution would be the same one I kept giving Alexis all year long: Scheduling is a pain, and you've got to be spot on with your planning. This year's tournament at Bowling Green State University is an excellent example of how things flow when things go right. I both hope and expect Western Kentucky will meet if not exceed the standard set this year.

I like the idea of having the skills challenge and and all star during the day, but that hour break, will most teams decide to go eat or will they stay and watch/play? The other options you have to deal with people getting up and coming right away.
Option 3 looks the most promising, especially if there is access to food relatively close to the facilities we are playing at.

haha The food coupon type things will be good for all day so teams can choose when to eat anytime between 10am and 6pm based on when they are free from games and such. The food facilities are like a 3 minute walk from the Preston Health and Activity Center. But just mind you this is all still in the planning stages so no garentees just yet; if anything we will just hire Kent State's armed line judge to watch over the pizzas haha.

So Nationals eh? Gonna be fun!
There's something I need to know kind of soon on. Right now it looks as if the cost per team will be $150 which helps us cover the cost of the tournament and all that jazz. I talked to the Baymount Inn in town and they have reserved a 30 block section of rooms for any NCDA team, it will be $59.99 a night at a nice hotel that you won't run the risk of getting raped/stabbed/impregnated in (wrap it before you tap it please). I just need to know which teams would be interested in this deal and how many rooms each team would need. I need to give them an accurate number of rooms to hold before January 1st. There are more hotels in Bowling Green than you can shake a stick at so this is under no circumstances your only option. There's the Hilltopper Inn right next to campus, but it's one of those place where the motto might as well be "Come Here to get Raped/Stabbed/Impregnated". There's alot of options though, so just let me know if you'd like to utilize the Baymount Inn deal as soon as possible.

Um, DePaul is down for that. I just applied for funding on Nov 12th, and we're waiting to hear back on what we got (we will probably see by this Thursday). We gave them quotes for $74 room with tax so hopefully we got it all.
We asked for 5 rooms with double beds so everybody gets a bed. 90% chance we will get 5 rooms.
And hopefully the hotel staff is as competent as the Dimondale, MI Comfort Inn's staff. They put DePaul, WIU, and UK right next to eachother and totally away from that one family... first time in 6-7 years that DePaul Dodgeball has not gotten a noise complaint - although i think WIU picked one up.
