ok so im sure some of you out there know that there is a pro dodgeball league, its basically what we do but these guys aren't in college. but if you have watched it, then you know why i mean when i say its pathetic. theres a few guys on the WKU team that would like to try and get the pro league to change its rules morel like ours. is there anyone one out there that would like this as well? it is something that we should really think about. if they changed then the sport, at least i feel, could really take off. any input or views on this matter? it was just something that was on my mind that i thought would be beneficial to throw out there

Forget having them change their rules. We need to get a group together and make our own professional league and play by our rules. Then if they would like to join with us, and adapt to our rules they are welcome to.

I am in agreement with Mccarthy, I guess it is that De La Salle mentality. After reviewing the pro league, their rules, and watching their matches I can see why they haven't taken off. It is kind of pathetic. If we really wanted to get something going on a professional level, we would have to start it ourselves, with our rules and regulations. I would be interested in trying to get it started, but it is not something that would be an easy start.

I completely agree with you guys (on both sides). We need to grow the NCDA to some really high levels...get some SEC, ACC, and PAC-10 plus the Big Ten and it will look a lot more attractive to bozos over on Wall Street. Then with the collegiate popularity start teams in big cities. NYC, LA, Chi-town, Dallas (so on and so forth). The venues could be pre-existing basketball stadiums converted into an epic dodgeball arena. But before all of that happens the NCDA needs much bigger press coverage.

The first thing we would have to do is grow at the collegiate level. Once that is set and we have a certain number of teams and enough alumni then we could start thinking about making a professional league. Until then we should worry about growing at our level.

Definitely looking forward to a professional league of our own though.

these are exactly the ideas i was hoping to hear guys, sounds like this is something that every team needs to keep in mind when they think of where they want this sport to go. start at the college levels and work our way up. but where do we start with something like this? how do we turn this club sport into a NCAA sport?

We just need to get a TON of schools in on this. Once we get say 100 something schools in on it I'm sure we could appeal to the NCAA or something like that. Right now we are at about 16-18 legit teams. So we have a long way to go.

I agree with Mike, first focus on the collegiate level. Professional teams will follow. What could be done in the meantime is to develop a "pro league" that just consists of Alumni who play two games a year. Once against their alma-mater and one against another school's alumni.

I think it all starts with spreading the word about dodgeball. Most people have no clue that there is such a thing as competitive dodgeball, and once they see it almost everyone gets excited about it. I think that contacting some sort of media coverage for nationals is a must, and I'm pretty sure they would be quick to jump on an interesting story. The need for big-name schools is key here, as MSU and OSU are a little more marketable than SVSU and WIU. OR, we need to find a way for kyle korver and Deron Williams to support us! www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfpYwjXFQK8&feature=related

for the NCAA to consider admitting a sport into its association 50 universities have to approve it at a varsity level which means funding, equipment, coaches, scholarships (blah blah blah). Once 50 schools approve it the NCAA will start considering it as a sport for current examples on how this is done look at the insane expansion of Quidditch...it has started to apply for NCAA recognition. Schools like Harvard, Yale, and UCLA are in on this and the sport has only been around since 2005 (approx 1000 teams world wide including high school).

LMFAO, I'm dropping dodgeball and playing Quidditch. All I have to say is the line from Role Models about Quidditch made me piss myself.
But anyways, if it take 50 schools I honestly think in about 4-5 years this could be a legit sport.

Sounds like we need to spread the word to the schools in our areas. The hardest part would be getting the west to catch on. But 50 school, there's already almost 20. So in all reality I don't see getting the other 30ish being extremely difficult. Especially seeing as how the sport is so easy for people to like. I mean come on, who doesn't wanna blast someone with a Dodgeball?

It's not that no one wants to play. Everyone loves to play once or twice every so often. The problem is getting leaders and people who are committed. We need people who will be a great leader to put the team together at their college, and we need people who are committed to the team and will be at every practice and game. The problem is people don't want to go through all the hard work and paperwork to get a team together. That is why it is hard to get teams started at other schools. You need to have the one person who has the time and desire to go out and get it done.
But this league has been around for 7 years or so? I forget the actual amount of time it's been around. (I'm sure Bomis was there.) But 20 solid teams in that amount of time, and it should grow faster as the years go by, we should be good in about another 7 years.

I started a quidditch team here at BG...there are a couple of other NCDA guys that are on their schools quidditch teams...it's possible to do both just a lot of stress on the body lol
