So the All-Star game was fun and changing it around would definitely make it more worthwhile, but I'm going to suggest something that will blow your mind. Maybe in between games have a space dedicated to silly dodgeball. Basically this area will be dedicated for people to be able to play lava dodgeball, naughty nurse, or any other DePaul-esque game you can think of in between their games. I know in between one of our games we started playing kickball and it seemed like playing something other than dodgeball really let people unwind and make friends between squads. I say we have some cross-team bonding stuff that we could do because that stuff is crazy fun.

For me nationals is all about two things; obviously the national championship game, but also to just have fun. Considering only two teams can really partake in the championship game part of dodgeball, I suggest we cater to those that also want to have fun.

But then again maybe these are just the ramblings of an old man that has played the serious style of dodgeball for too many years.

So what you're telling me is that you'll pay me to get the best seat in the house for a game as long as I have a whistle in my mouth? Alright I'm game. Well you're used to having things in your mouth so I don't think the whistle will be a problem. Heyohhhhh!!! But yea, I really like the idea of having the people who know and love the sport of dodgeball reffing and being rewarded for doing a good job. It sounds like the best solution imo. I like the idea of playing some side games, it will come down to if I can convince my director to give me the extra space but I think we can make it happen. Kickball is a favorite here at SVSU as well as Gladiator. As far as the all star game, I think I will just write a list of all the different formates everyone comes up with and I make a poll at the start of the next season and let the team decide. Everyone has some really solid ideas.

Kickball was awesome.
One of the times that I kicked the ball it flew to the outfield and hit Zigmister in the head! Definitely something we should do again next year.
Also, I like the idea of having separate areas for fun dodgeball games so than we can have serious games for the real tournament and have fun games so everyone is happy.

Spencer-
I would suggest those drop down tarps on all 4 walls if possible. That way, neither team gets a clear advantage either half.
If thats not possible (which is totally fine), make a rule whether or not players who are either hit out or sitting out can stand behind their team and catch balls to prevent them from bouncing back. We had a small problem with that, and it was eventually resolved by captains, but if there is a concrete rule whether or not they can do it, it really isn't up for discussion. So maybe more of a rule change than anything. But as long as there is something there, we wouldnt have much of a problem.

I love the idea of having alumni refs. As for the all-star game, I love the NHL style of picking. I am with everyone else that has said that the cross-team bonding was a highlight of nationals. Playing kickball with everyone that played was truly a blast.

As much fun as Michigan vs The World was for me personally (all the cool kids played the first half for Team Michigan) it doesn't seem like everyone else liked it as much as I did. So if you had to change it, I'd say the NHL style All-Star game.
For captains you could do an All-Star from the host school (probably you Spencer) and then an All-Star from the number one ranked school (or if SVSU is #1 then the #2 school). And then those captains can pick players. The reason I say the #1 ranked school for the second captain is that that team is obviously going to play a lot of games in order to be ranked so highly, so that'll give that captain the chance to know the abilities of a lot of the players in the game. Also it rewards the team who takes first place in the league.

As a strong supporter of the NHL point system that we now have, I am a strong supporter of an All-Star Game like the most recent NHL All-Star Game.
I think some of the issues that have been said like not knowing some of the players is the beauty of this system! The idea that all the players are mushed together to create a new team and meeting each other on a more personal level makes this idea even more appealing! This game along with the league party seems to be the best two ideas I have heard about nationals yet.
On another note about the All-Star Game, I have two ideas for picking captains. First we can just have the "allstars" pick who should be the two prior to the picking like a school yard game should be, or just have the home team (this year would be SVSU) and the two "allstars" that are selected are now the two captains to pick the teams.

Quoting Jardine from page one: "Maybe have teams vote on their own players to send to the all star game, then put all the names in a hat and draft em."
This is what I thought the NHL style was when I mentioned and supported my post, just for clarification purposes.

the "captain not knowing people" problem could be very easily fixed
either 1- have everyone post their roster with the players real names and have them link their dodgeball page on facebook,
or 2- have the teams throw the 5 they pick, then send the list to the two captains and let those two captains choose from the list.
i love the idea of the all star game getting set up like this other then the style it was this year. i think that the concept of this years nationals is a great idea for another game type, but not an all star game.

I don't know if this has been said or not when i got home from nationals my computer was broke so haven't been able to post on the boards yet but for the all-star game I personally think it would be awsome no matter how you split up the teams, to have everyone that plays in the game to wear their own jerseys. I think everyone should be able to tell who is on their team, especially if it is The World vs. that state up North. Since I think just about everyone thought the All-star game was awsome, and with everyteam sitting around that one game watching it being able to represent your school is the way to go.

Agreed, I loved the friendly atmosphere the game had with everyone sitting around heckling each other.
