At WKU there was a photographer but he was with the school newspaper and took good pictures. The only problem was that there was a ridiculous price for the pictures which is why there werent that many good action shots. Try to stay away from someone like that and get some friends of the players on your team that have skills in handling photography. Nationals 2012 at SVSU are officially March 30th, 31st, and April 1st so clear your calendars folks. I booked Friday as well in hopes that a JV tournament can be set up the day before Nationals for teams that are interested. Its a great lead off to the big games on Saturday and I think the JV teams should be able to play on the big stage. If the JV tournament idea doesn't take off then we can use Friday to set up with out the hassle of having to wait for another team to clear out of the facilities. We would have the whole place to our selves. So how interested will teams be? I would love for a poll to be set up.

Well good news for you sir Nationals have been moved back a weekend to April 7th and 8th! And yes that is final. We also have the gym reserved for that Friday should teams want to come early and have a JV tourny.

As having participated in four national tournaments, I feel it's my obligation to put forward my opinion freely. It's just as freely that anyone can take these opinions. My first edition of a series of posts regards mostly Spencer's initial post:
Officials: The issue of Officiating within the NCDA belongs to the competent decisions of the individual event coordinators. While the practice of officiating dodgeball is indeed an inherently difficult organization of chaos, good and efficient officiating has been repeatedly proven to exist. The best officials will consist of persons that are both veteran NCDA players and also officiate in intramural programs or the like. The next best have one of those two criteria. It is only a plus when Officials have prior experience overseeing a college match. Historically it's been the Captains/Officers of the participating teams that plug gaps in the Staff, and they had to wing it. There now exists an officiating manual bundled within the Rulebook. It works; trust in that as I don't care to defend it other than to present it in its entirety. I have no knowledge if it was used to acclimate the officials for Nationals, but I think we've come to the conclusion that those officials just weren't into it and only present for the paycheck. Officiating dodgeball is absolutely a really sucky job if you're not interested, but texting while working is unacceptable.
All of the officials I've asked to help in events at DePaul have been genuinely interested in doing the job, if not for the food but for the experience. For the intramural officials, it was something they put on their resume. They went into the event excited, chosen because I thought they would fulfill their duty and obligations as Officials. If someone wasn't into the prospect after I lightly bribed them with a shirt, food, or beer, then I rescinded the offer. There's more options in the prospective pool for Nationals: intramural refs, the alumni/non players traveling with each of the teams, interested people on the teams themselves. All of that can be arranged beforehand and should be worked out before the teams arrive. Jardine is probably already on that, but there needs to be at least 3 officials per court, ideally four. They also rotated themselves between positions as well as hardcore/softcore matches at the CDO, which kept them fresh. Not saying that you need to "pay" all 3-4 officials for 4 courts or more, the staff of 16 could easily be subsidized by other temporary, short term service officials to match the full term staff.
League Party: Sounds awesome of course, but the logistics of 300+ people partying together in one location makes my head hurt. Everybody says their team will party with the other, but given the chance it often doesn't happen. 15-20 people stuck between two hotel suites make a fine party on their own. What ends up is a minority of exchange between the already confined spaces, good times still created but it takes a lot to get past the 15 person gap. You won't get everyone there. But if you build it, they will still come.
All Star Game: I don't regret doing World vs Michigan. It was a good idea and great for the NCDA. The only thing I did regret was not fitting everyone onto the court. Splitting the teams sucked when the halves themselves were barely 15 minutes. All 60? people should have been on the court, with twenty balls or the 1 ball to 3 player NCDA standard ratio. Much more entertaining for the crowds. I would like to change the format away from MI v World to a general NHL style that's been brought up. And to have the mix & matched All Stars play in their team's jersey.
Lady Dodgeballers: The lack of anything happening was a result of it not being penciled into the schedule, or any particular individual stepping up to make sure the game happened. If you want to schedule an all girls game I'm sure there's enough in the league that want to play. Personally I'd rather have them play with me on my team in a mixed game rather than segregating into a separate match. But everyone knows I have no power over the actions of my own team, much less any of the ladies of DePaul Dodgeball. They do what they want.

I would really like to the All Star game be mix & matched and being played in their team jersey. That is actully what I dislike most in the all star game you didnt know who played on what team. Also always for Lady Dodgeball. Bringing two loves together.

As far as the All Star Game is concerned I thought the Michigan vs. The World was fun, but I agree that it should be done differently. Each team should supply 2 or 3 of their best players and we draw from a hat like we did last year for 2 teams. If you draw a 1 then your school goes on the 1 team and similarly when a 2 is drawn they go on team 2. That way you aren't splitting up your own school, but it's more random. Or you could try something like splitting up the teams based on how well they played throughout the year. The team that's ranked first goes on team 1, second ranked team goes on team 2, third ranked team goes on team 1, etc. etc....
Let's assume 20 teams show up to nationals and each team supplies 2 people then that makes an easy 20 on 20 game. If teams supply 3 for the allstar game then tada, 4 teams of 15. Then you could do something fun like a quick round robin where they play like 15 minutes for each game or something. The winners of the allstar game can get... coupons to the Vu or something. FYI, Deja Vu is like a 3 minute drive from SVSUs campus for all you crazy Kentucky/Kansas kids. I expect to hear more ridiculous stories like last year!

I have been getting some emails already on hotels and such. I haven't been ignoring them, I am still compiling a list of various hotels at different price ranges so teams have plenty of options to choose from. I should have this done next weekend.
