Why not do some sort of captain's pick for the ASG? You could put the 60 names in the hat and draw the 2 captains out from there and line the other 58 players up in a line and have them pick from there. (jerseys on in this case to help the captains pick players, since most players dont know EVERYONE by name)

It would be interesting, but i think it should be either pre determined teams from the rankings, or random teams (picking names out of a hat). The whole recess style line up and pick teams thing would just take more time, and be could end up being viewed as more of a popularity contest. I just think the All Star Game should be quick and easy since its such a recent add on to Nationals. But if you did pick teams would you pick individual players, or the group of all stars from a given team? The latter could only work if every team had an equal number of All Stars and not the format that involves teams with more commitment getting more all stars as Hiller mentioned earlier.

I'd like to see 3 from every team personally, you get more representation from across the league rather than just the teams that have played the most games, though i guess you could consider that a reward for teams like Kent State playing way more games than a lot of other schools lol
So yeah with that said, if you did the captain draft it definitely would take a bit more time to get everything sorted out rather than if you just drew everyone from a hat, but if you did it the way where you drafted by the school rather than individuals it wouldn't take that much longer.
You could put the other 2 players from the same school as the captain automatically drafted to their team so they don't have to play against their own teammates, then draft by school (wouldn't take very long at all, might even be faster than random hat pick).
Just a suggestion anyways.

Personally I also would like to see 3 players from every team. It's simpler and does provide better representation for the league. I think it should be completely random (hat drawn) and could even be done before teams get to nationals by getting teams to submit their All Star game with their other information due for Nationals (then that information could even by in the pamphlet, or the All Stars could be highlighted etc).
OR: it should be completely non-random: If you are going to draft via schools I think the Captains should be the Final two from last years Nationals (GVSU & CMU) and that would lead to a very well balanced ASG. My fear about making the captains of the ASG random is that it could end up very unbalanced if it was a veteran/active team vs a new/less active team picking players for their all star team.
But again the ASG is just a fun small event when compared to the the entire Nationals weekend, So i'm sure however it's done it will be enjoyable. The only thing I will ask (and there isn't anyway to enforce this) is that every team actually enter their All Stars, and not the bottom of their roster. It's only 25 minutes and there are 30 players in each team subbing in. It's such a small amount of time that they are not going to throw their arms out.

I like the idea of submitting and presenting the allstars in the pamphlet however, like it was said before, everyone would have to submit honesty. The only problem I can see with this is that it "gives away" the predetermined players and might cause other teams to target them.
And it has yet to be answered if we want to get asg shirts. I guess it would be good to know if it is even still possible not to get the shirts...... Spencer?

My all star game: 3 players per team attending, with 20 teams = 30 players per team, selected as the actual, representative all stars of the team. They can be good, or they can be the super leadership presence of the team (like Jazzy back when he was playing for WKU). Put all 30 on the court at one time, put twenty balls out there, play with his or her team's jerseys, have fun. i would say play by DePaul rules, catches are not out for the thrower, but i made that concession. Although people could actually do more trick shots and tom foolery.

Also what is the format going to be for the Bracket / Pools for both Saturday and Sunday of Nationals. i.e. will Sunday still be 20% the results of regular season and 80% of Saturdays results?

More questions: When is the Captains' Meeting scheduled within the day? Have you scheduled yet, at least start and end times they'll let you go to? I will make a tentative schedule in the records gdoc just because i can.
How many games do you have to Officiate in order to get paid? I'm think of Officiating instead of playing, but can't decide whether to play or officiate.
Also I will provide rule handbooks manufactured by me (the same style I brought to the MSU Invite)

Speaking of the ASG, has anyone brought up the girls' match again since it was first brought up at the end of last year? I think I've seen more girls this season than in my past 4 years of dodgeball. I think it would be a great way to give us girls a chance to show what we've got. And since there isn't too many of us it shouldn't take up a significant amount of time. Not to mention this is my last nationals.

So just to group together some recent questions:
1) What is the format of the All Star Game? 2) Do we have to use the All Star shirts? 3) Will there be a girls game? 4) How are brackets being set up for Sunday? 5) How many games are refs needed for? / How many more refs do you need?
Let me know if i missed something.

First of all, thank you Fitz for providing me a cheat sheet for everyones post haha. Second of all, I see everyone has an opinion as to how the All star game should be.
1) Format, teams will nominate their own all stars like last year. All teams that attend nationals will be able to select all stars from their team. How ever the number that teams are allowed to vote it will be based on your regular season standing. Teams like Kent St, GVSU, and SVSU will have more players for example. I want to reward teams for playing games during the regular season. After teams have voted their players in I will simply be putting everyones name in a hat and drawing them out at random to make teams. 2) It seems like a majority of you are not for wearing all star shirts. Sadly they are already being made. My plan now if you guys like it is to have everyone play in their regular uniforms, and you just take the shirt home as a bragging rights deal. Does that sound good? 3) Hell yes there will be a girls game. IF YOU ARE A CAPTAIN AND ARE PLANNING ON BRINGING GIRLS TO PLAY IN THE GAME PLEASE LET ME KNOW! 4) Brackets will keep to the format we had last year. Only change is GVSU automaticly gets the worst seed. (Kidding) 5) As of right now I have 4 solid refs I am confident I can rely on, but I'm still searching for 4 more. If you have anyone in mind let me know
If I missed anyones question please let me know

What is the latest list of teams attending?
How many games do you have to Officiate in order to get paid? I'm thinking of Officiating instead of playing, but can't decide between.
When is the Captains' Meeting scheduled within the event?
DePaul will bring at max 5 ladies.

Kent could vary in the amount of girls we bring, a max of 7 but I think 3 or 4 is more likely. When we get a little bit closer I will give the exact amount.
