Hey everyone,
I haven't been on here all summer. Been pretty busy with work and such, but I'm putting advanced notice because I've already been doing some serious planning for this year.
As you all should know MSU hosts the MDC every year, featuring only Michigan teams. Last year we at Michigan State also hosted the MSU Invite which was kind of like the anti-MDC. It's a chance for my team to play other teams from around the league.
As of now I plan to host the MSU Invitational Tournament on Saturday November 13th, 2010. This will be a tournament featuring MSU and 5 other teams. Last year it was a great success and I feel like this will be a fantastic tournament to kick off the NCDA season.
I am hoping for all five other teams to be non-Michigan teams. This will be a great opportunity not only for MSU, but for your schools to play against teams they wouldn't normally have a chance to see until nationals as well.
I know it's very early, but I figured that since I already have the date I might as well put it out there and see what kind of feedback I get.
Last year BGSU and KSU both came and I think it went pretty well.
I'd love to see some sort of combination of DePaul, BG, Kent, OSU, WIU, UWP, or anyone from Kentucky. (Sorry if I left teams out, those were just the first few off the top of my head).
So there you have it, mark your schedules and hopefully I'll be seeing some of you this November.

Ian, OSU probably won't be able to make it. November 13, our football team plays Penn State at home. I don't see too many of our team that will be willing to skip the game.

It's too late to for DePaul to get funding for anything before the end of the year. I know a lot of our team might not have it in their budgets to make a trip... But I'll keep the 13th in mind and try to scrape together a team after our schedule starts back up.

I'm putting it on the schedule especially because this will be the weekend after BG's Halloween Madness and we'll be nice and fresh as a team...and hopefully not forfeit like we did last season lol. I can give you a confirmation by mid september.

Awesome. Glad to see some feedback already. I'll post a reminder about this at the end of September/ early October to really get the ball rolling

DePaul just let me know that they are able to come and plan to be there. If we can get WIU and BG to join this could be a very successful tournament. Still waiting to see if KSU is interested, or anyone from the Kentucky schools. (all other non-MI teams are welcome too).

excellent! So it's DePaul and BG so far. OSU can't make it due to football. Kentucky said they'll get back to me later this week and Kent State is interested and will let me know when their team decides.
Still waiting to see if UWP, WIU, Miami-OH, etc have any interest.
This is already shaping up to be a great tournament.
I'm looking to get a trophy made for this one too, since the tournament has developed into a yearly thing. GVSU won it last year so if we do get a trophy made I'll make sure they get their team name on it for the 2009 tourney.

haha oh Stein. It took you longer to comment on this than I thought it would. I'm hoping to come play you guys at SV sometime after this tournament, before winter break. We host the MDC in February for all the MI teams, this is for everyone else.
However if teams drop out and I need someone to fill the space I may be asking SV to join in.
Right now it looks like that won't be an issue. But you never know in this league. People seem to always drop out of stuff.

Massive problem. MSU has bumped us out of our slot. Apparently club volleyball is more important than club dodgeball. Even though we put our request in over two months ahead of time they're saying that the volleyball team gets the gym space.
We have two options.
1. Try to bump the tournament to Sunday Nov 14. 2. Get a new, off campus venue. There are sports complexes in Lansing that would accommodate us, but I have to check into their rates.
Since BGSU and DePaul are the only teams I have 100% confirmation from I need to know what those two teams want to do.

Dude, that sucks. We've been bumped before too, for intermural kickball none the less. And they used our dodgeball as the kickball. such it is.
Um, I think we'd still have to hotel it up saturday and leave sunday night after matches. Our final exams start Nov 17, and most of us probably can't miss the last class on that monday. Except for me, i don't have class on monday. But I'll talk to our prospective travelers about it tomorrow, thursday and get back to you on here.
If it's cheap, a off campus venue would still be cool. We can keep the dates all the same and don't have to get back at 1am or something like that.
