Also big ups to Ian "Best Catcher in the NCDA" Childs who not only put on a heck of a tournament, but I think he also got what may have been his first ever catch in an actual game. lol shut up Sam. I usually pull a catch or two. Instincts just tell me to block instead most of the time. However it may have been my first ever catch in a game while being the last player left in play.

Thanks a lot to those posting kind words about EMU. We are trying our best and seem to have the interest this year which is a good start. Another great match was played today with SVSU. The MSU invite was a lot of fun and a great experience for our guys. Most of our matches were closer than the final scores indicated, and overall we put up a good fight in every game. Ian did a wonderful job running this tournament, and Bomis did a wonderful job officiating as he always does. All teams did the best they could on calls, and i apologize if myself or my teammates got out of line at all on questionable calls. I think it is more of a heat of the moment thing than anything else.
We did have one complaint. A team continued to throw balls at guys when a catch was made to get the incoming guy out before he even entered the court, as well as hitting a guy in the back of the head 3 times after an attempted suicide when he was clearly already out. I'm glad my player chose to do the right thing but he wanted to throw punches after the 2nd one, and then he got hit a 3rd time, all were not accidental as he was standing off to the side. Very unsportsmanlike, ad disappointing, however the team did seem like a nice team overall so im not sure exactly what sparked the incident as i only have one side of the story.
Anyway thanks Ian and MSU for inviting us, and hopefully we can make something happen December 5th. For now i need some RnR, because my arm is gone, as is my body.

i apologize for naming a team, and i did take the team name out. I also clearly stated i only had 1 side of the story and didn't know the opposing teams side.
On a side note to clarify the balls were being thrown at our jail to hi those players trying to enter the court. They were not "illegally" entering the court and then running to the back just to clarify.

I devote my event epilogue to our MVP of the weekend:
Mick Cielesz - DePaul Dodgeball #55
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit, he took the midnight train going anywhere.
Mick is from Rockford and our Secretary this year, plus he will most likely be next year's President. He was the only freshman when we brought when we played at Nationals 2009 in Allendale.
Aside from hosting Brutalitopia on Radio.DePaul.edu, where you can find your metal fix on Sundays, he has been directly responsible for three major points won by DePaul in the past two years. One was a point against CMU at Nationals 2010, while the others were the two points against EMU this weekend. A great player overall, he often ends up being the last player at our regular dodgeball nights.
When we got that first point, he just collapsed like a tennis player at Wimbledon. We all rushed the court and I remember someone saying, "back up and give him some air." To that I responded, "No, everyone touch him for good luck!"
The worst thing was he still had to play the next point since our sub got taken out in our BGSU game. I'm not sure if those two points were back to back, but he ended up being the last one again because he was sitting on the baseline resting. Then somebody named him MickJesus.
Aside from his skills on the court, he is ridiculous at Pong too.
Anyway, our EMU match was really really close and we hope you guys make it to the CDO on Jan 30th, we'd love to see a rematch.
And thanks MSU, Bomis, and our officials from Kentucky/WIU/MSU

Somethings I observed at MSU
DePaul is still one of the most entertaining teams to watch / play with, and has been making a heap of catches regardless of who throws at them. #55 from DePaul (Mick?) had an amazing day, and has the Hooters T-Shirt to show for it!
There's no question EMU is improving every match, which is pretty dangerous considering how young the overall team is.
Bowling Green surprised me with how much teamwork they used, and I was very impressed with their win against UK, and I'm looking forward to the Ohio Dodgeball Cup (whenever that is)
I like some tactics i saw out of UK, a few sneaky tricky players that play smart dodgeball. Also the best way to tell that #1 is a (to put it lightly) solid gunner is to watch the number of people that throw at him it's pretty obvious that teams want him out early. But don't think he's the only one on UK that can throw heat.
WIU, They have the weapons to do some real damage on the court, they may not have gone undefeated but they are still playing some excellent dodgeball
MSU, You guys put on an excellent tournament and backed it up with some quality dodgeball, although i have to admit i don't enjoy sitting behind the team your throwing at. (I don't know who threw the ball that hit me in the nuts, i just know it really sucked.)
Also I'm uploading some footage from the MSU WIU game on to the youtube account. It's not a great angle and the camera get knocked over on occasion, but if your interested it should be up in an hour or so.

But whats his DePaul name? Mick Cielesz - I think it just might be MickJesus on his basketball jersey this year. We were going to give him an X on the front of his club shirt, but I think we might give him a J. www.youtube.com/user/ncdadodgeball

Man I woke up this morning and did not feel like P. Diddy. I woke up and felt like I played dodgeball for about 5 hours then rode in the back of a car in the middle seat for 7 hours. MSU, nice job on putting this tourny together. I know myself and my team had a great time the whole trip. I have nothing bad to say about this whole weekend. The only thing I hated about the trip was the drive through Ohio. Dude, that is a super flat and straight drive. I guess I'll talk dodgeball now: Looks like everyone is talking about #55 from DePaul. I didn't get to play against them, but that kid is legit. When I was reffing their game he pulled off some crazy stuff. I also like their attitude. They were getting beat but you could tell they were still having a good time. EMU has got some potential. They played us a hard game but we came out with the W. I think #11 for them had some ridiculous side arm throw thing that caught me off guard every single time and it seemed to be effective. WIU, had a soild team. We battled with them pretty good and I got plunked in the dome something awful. I will have nightmares of that headshot for weeks. Also you all made teamcatches like no ones business and that really killed us. BGSU was also a very respectable team. I can't remember to much from that game cause I was super tried and I lost some brain function from the headshot that I spoke of above. I also didn't get to play against MSU but they have some athletes on their team. They come out with a plan and get work done. I guess thats why they won the tournament.

I'm thinking tk2 is from UK because of the 7 hour drive comment (and if by chance you're number 2 on UK's team, you were the other hard thrower I noticed on that team). My only regret about this tourney is not being able to play UK. But I talked to Zac about it prior to the tourney and we agreed that if our teams didn't meet in this one they'd definitely play when MSU comes down there for the tourney you guys host next semester. Should be a great weekend.
And I agree. Ohio does suck to drive through. And the cops are jerks lol.
The MSU v WIU game isn't complete on youtube, but I still appreciate that Fitz taped it. It doesn't have my headshot on John Michael of WIU. I'm told he ended up throwing up as a result of the ball to the head and I wanted to see the footage (totally not to be an ass, it's just not often that you get to see yourself dome someone like that). Thanks for taping though Fitz : )
The WIU guys were awesome to play against. Very competitive group that wants to win games and I can tell they'd be really fun to hang out with off the court. They definitely kept me entertained with some hilarious texts while they hit the bars in Lansing that night.
Next time you guys come here you'll need to hit the EL bars with me. I was up to the usual- spending way too much money and buying shots for everyone. Not as bad as my $270 tab on Thursday night of Halloween week (and that's after my huge employee discount because I work at the bar, so I dont even wanna know what it would've been if I didn't work there) but you woulda enjoyed it regardless.

@fitz I think we're planning on February 26th for the ODC. It should be a good time...hopefully UC can get their stuff together and we'll have a 5-team tourney.

After watching the tourney all day, I came up with a few things: 1) BGSU, wow I was impressed with the teamwork and noticed a few standout players such as #4 and #45 i think. They kept it close with MSU which I honestly thought would run the tournament. 2) EMU, very impressed with the class that I saw lol other than the one incident which is open to interpretation haha. They have gotten much much better since I last saw them. 3) WIU, without a few key players as I was told, had good teamwork and #41 has a great arm. Really excited on playing you guys hopefully in the CDO. 4) DePaul, easily the most ammusing team to watch and play against I would say. They are definently the team that comes to have a good time and works together well. 5) UK, impressed with the athelets they have. #1 does have a good arm but it seemed that they relied on him alot to throw. Also #8 i think, he had a good arm as well from what I could tell. It will be interesting when we finally get to play you guys also, hopefully at the CDO. 6) Of course MSU, great tourney Ian, it was fun to watch and help out with the reffing. Gotta say #2 and #24 got some arms on them and cant wait for another epic battle with you guys @ SVSU Dec. 4th.
All around, great tourney. Interesting to watch some teams I never have before and look forward to playing all you over the course of the year.

Ian, you put together a great tournament. This was the first tournament that everyone went to on our team (Except 1 player) So this was a great opportunity for us. Sorry if any teams have complaints with us, if so we would like to make amends if at all possible. Thanks once again and we are looking forward to playing some more!
