Zac,
Do you know by any chance how much hotel fees will cost?

Depends on the hotel...can range anywhere from $50 and up a room.
Is there any interest for an "Alumni Only" game from any of the teams?
Also, it looks like our capacity for Nationals will be set at 24 teams. I'll make a big long detailed list of things soon and put it up here.

I had dinner tonight with two alumni and we were talking about an Alumni Game. I think it'd be a great idea! I know of a few WKU Alumni that would love to participate. God knows McCarthy would haha

It seems that with all of the growth this year in the NCDA we are going to have a 24 team cap. This will be the largest gathering of NCDA teams to date! We will get out the requirements for registering December 14th and registration beginning January 1st, with a cut-off for registration March 14th. It will be first come first served in regards as to who gets in.
We are going to try and to do something a little different for check-in this year...instead of everyone waiting to check-in in the morning we are going to send someone to the hotels the night before when everyone arrives and check-in some teams then. The only teams we will check-in Saturday morning will be those who drive up in the morning. This will hopefully allow us to speed up Saturday mornings to where we can get more games in the morning played.
We are still trying to determine whether to have a gym on Friday night. We are looking at playing a few matches that night or a handful of JV games. If your team is interested in playing one of your pool play matches or playing a JV game let me know.
If any of the teams are flying into the Lexington Airport let me know so we can discuss a few ways to insure that you all get some free ground transportation to and from the airport.
Hope everyone's recruiting and season is kicking off right!

An idea,
Maybe we could lower the length of a half, as in tournament settings it can be anytime between 25-20 minutes.
I think this would depend on the minimum amount of games played by a team over the Nationals weekend; we don't want to short change the usual guaranteed 4 games, cutting a possible 40 minutes of gameplay.
But, on Saturday we could shorten the matches and keep the Sunday tournament bracket at the standard 25 min half. Shortening on Saturday could save arms and energy, as well as improve the final end time, or allow for a rare overtime or two.
There's also the thought that Nationals is the application of the ideal implementation of the NCDA rulebook, so maybe we shouldn't short change it.

Saw Zig's post and looked at the stats from this past National Tournament. Out of the 24 games played on Day One, 14 (58%) of them were blowouts, ie wins of 4 points or more. I doubt the teams on the losing end of those games would mind shortening what is largely dead time.

I will look into shortening the time. It depends on how many courts we have for Saturday as to whether we cut. On a side note... Jeff DeWitt made the CBS morning show this morning for this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhZXWq239lI(Let's not repeat this at Nationals)

Are there any plans for a production ala WKU 2011? If so, I am requesting an expenditure for absurdly colored blazers for the commentators. --edit-- An additional expenditure for a Howard Cosell toupee wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

Funny you should mention that, Bomis. I talked with Zac today and we both agree that Nationals 2013 needs to be documented to the best of our abilities. I'm not sure how the camera situation is going to work out yet, but I've volunteered to help put together a "Superstar VIP Commentator Team" for the tournament. Basically I'm getting together a bunch of interested alumni who want to help me provide commentary for ALL the games at Nationals. Yes, I said all. Zac has more realistic expectations, but I'm aiming high with this one. With our combined brainpower (my head is huge and Bomis has acquired a vast amount of knowledge in his 75+ years of life) and the benefit of knowing the schedule in advance, I believe we could have commentators covering every game if we assembled a team of at least 10 alumni. I need to point out here that Zac will be paying alumni to referee at Nationals, so if you're interested in reffing, just go with that and stop by the table in between games for a cameo in the commentary. I'm needing people who will commit to commentating exclusively so we can create a set schedule. We're looking for people like myself and Ben Sobczyk (we're already a fifth of the way there!) who don't want to ref, have knowledge of the game and like to talk. I'd like to get five 2-man booths that can either cover all the games in a certain pool on Day 1, or that rotate to a different court for each hour of games so a booth doesn't end up covering the same team twice. I'm open to suggestions on the scheduling. Alright, we've already got one booth. Who else wants to join my "Superstar VIP Commentator Team?"P.S. Bomis, be for real, we all know you'll be dressed like this when you commentate games:

I'm not sure how the camera situation is going to work out yet The Tournament seems like an excellent opportunity to give the UK telecom students a chance for some excellent hands-on experience, and a chance for more HD dodgeball similar to what MSU has done. I imagine an email or sitdown between some telecom instructors and UK dodgeball could prove useful. See? Knowledge!

Great idea! I'll see what I can arrange then. But, we will also have an ALUMNI GAME! For those guys who couldn't stay in school forever.

I would probably like to be consider a ref first, just to make sure that Zac has enough. But I will also like to do some commentary. As long as I am able to attend that is.
