Haha i just wanted to say it sucks. Theres gotta be a better way. Having the balls live is more dangerous. You have people getting smoaked in the face from point blank range now. Just saying I think it sucks anyone agree?

We've only tried it on short court, so the balls are a lot closer together than they normally would be, so I don't really know how good it is on a long court, and while I'm not 100% sold on it I wouldn't say it sucks, it's just different. Once we get used to it I think it'll be fine. And if people don't like it then we can always change it back at this year's Captain's meeting.

We havent been able to try it out yet...but it does seem like it will be more dangerous. As of now I am just reading everyelse post about it...and trying to get a good idea how we are going to adapt to it.

It's still very early in the season, I don't see why changes still couldn't be made. I figure it'll be difficult to find the happy medium between player safety and excitement factor. Since the season is starting up again, I would again urge teams to try out new things for starting points. People might as well post what they think. It's currently 3-4-3 auto-live balls, yeah?

It's not at all to late to change. The first bunch of matches are october and the first match is sept 17, we could get a vote in if there was interest. DePaul tried the new, voted in rule of Opening Whistle 0-3-4-3-0 late in May, we had many people out straight off the Rush. I personally think that teams would have to learn not to rush for the center balls, as it is a very good chance that those center rushers are on a suicide run. Therefore, its a learning curve. Personally I don't like those kinds of learning curves but it could still be learned I personally like the pass back option, and DePaul liked that when we first voted on it. Here's the voting results, top four: Opening Whistle 0-3-4-3-0 Bring Back 0-4-2-4-0 Bring Back 0-5-0-5-0 Opening Whistle 0-5-0-5-0 Bring Back 4-2-4 is the best for safety, excitement, and lessens the chance of a game decider just on the rush. and the stat thing has been brought up before, the Opening rush is meant to start the game, most action happens within that other 45 mins.

Personally not a fan of the new rush.. I just feel you shouldn't have to send kids on suicide missions in order to get an early advantage. I also feel like more people are going to end up getting hurt this way than before because we're so close at the start.
I believe BG's vote was Bring Back 0-4-2-4-0 as our first choice and we would vote the same way if there was a re-vote. Gives teams at least 4 balls to work with and allows for some competition for the middle balls. I also think you need to have some sort of bring back no matter where the balls are placed for safety reasons.
I say we re-vote.

I think doing the bring back way would still provide for two collisions for the two middle balls. Since the vote was to cut down on collisions i think the 0-3-4-3-0 definately does that.

As exciting as it is to have these mini battles all over the court, way too many people are getting out right away and way too many people are getting destroyed from 3 feet away. Its more exciting obviously, but i feel it takes away from part of the game. Personally I would vote for the 4-2-4 Bring Back, but obviously that doesnt represent all of MSU.

Meh, I got hit in the face Tuesday (at the MSU practice) from about 1 foot away but that's par for the course. At least it gets the adrenaline pumping.

i'm not a big fan of the new rush and wouldnt be opposed to a revote. i know there were a quite of few people at practice that didnt like it either. i would prefer we change it back to the original rush but seeing as how thats probably not going to happen i would suggest trying the 3-0-4-0-3 set up. its not really a rush anymore but i've played with a similar set up in tournaments and i enjoy that much more then the current set up

Ya that way would eliminate point blank shots while also providing the drama at the beginning as to which team will get the middle four.

So calling a new vote? do we want to limit the options this time?

I don't think the new opening rush sucks, it's just different. Once we all figure the ins and outs of it, everyone will be fine. We're just not used to it yet. I say we keep it until January 1 and if everyone still hates it, or doesn't see the benefit in it by then, we do a re-vote. Let's at least give it a chance.

I agree with Felix. you now have to have some strategy to the run up and realize that if your gonna run recklessly at the balls there is a chance you will get hit from a closer range. Personally I like it and I think it creates a lot more action right away
