I want people to keep in mind that the opening rush was originally changed for safety reasons, not for the excitement of the game. It's understandable that there will be injuries in dodgeball, it's a very physical sport, but we need to keep in mind that if there are ways to reduce unnecessary injuries in this game then steps should be taken to make sure it is safer. So if there eventually IS a revote I want people to keep that point in mind. The opening rush is merely a start to the game, injuries should not result from it.

The real problem here is that the NCDA doesn't have a procedure for voting outside of Nationals. We should create one.
Even if this does get changed back, I think that in the future there should be a rule that the rules can't be changed mid-season except in case of emergency. Having rules change in the middle of the year is very bad.

I have to agree with willhack. We should have some sort of emergency voting procedure when things come up that need to be tended to immediately. However, I do not think the opening rush would even fall under this category. It is not like there is something completely horrible about the rush that needs to be changed for the fate of the game. It would be poor form to change the rules mid way through the season when many teams have already played under the new style. But its just my opinion.

So Will and Brian, you guys are willing to play with a rule for an entire year with a rule that you personally think sucks, whatever that rule may be?

Personally yes, unless like I said before, the rule is drastically affecting the game in a horrible way. In my opinion the current rush format is not doing that. Every league has rules that people don't like. I hate the new kickoff rule in football and so do many return guys, but they have to play with it because its a rule. Once the season ends they can try and change it, just like when we have the captains meeting at nationals we can change rules as we see necessary.
On a side note mccarthy, did you actually start a team at Macomb?

haha Yeah, I did. I wanting for the nod that I'm approved, but I'm 90% sure I'm going to get it. I've already got an advisor that is willing to travel with the team(because he has to), and I also have a full team give or take like 2-3 guys. So with all that in mind I should be up and running for sure by next semester. I just need to get some practices and stuff going.

If there was going to be an emergency voting policy, it would have to be clearly defined what an emergency is. I have been thinking for like an hour and there isn't any real situation that I can think of that would warrant an 'emergency voting procedure'. Also I don't think that it would be good to have a voting summit or meeting in December to vote on new rules. I don't think that it would be right to change any rule halfway through a season. I think the only time that rules need to be changed is at nationals.

I am not a fan of the mentality of wait till XX/XX/XXXX date because like i said earlier most people only get to play dodgeball for 4 years, if not less. IF the majority would like to change it then it seems like a waste of time to play with a rule we don't like for an 1/8th of our college career. This is what Kyle said before and I think most people agree with this. If everyone doesn't like a rule why would we not want the opportunity to change it as soon as possible rather than playing with it for an entire year.

Full Version here. tl;dr version: Three ways to get stuff done April Tournament - Same as normal. Monthly Assembly - 1st-7th of the month, Member Teams can propose business by posting in the designated subforum. Teams can discuss it all month long. Voting begins the 15th of the month, and ends on the last day of the month. Results are released the 1st day of the following month, and take immediate effect. Games happening the same week the new rule takes effect may choose to play by the old rule. To get an issue passed, a majority of Member Teams must vote, and a majority of ballots cast will decide the issue. Emergency Assembly - May be called at any time. Same thing as the Monthly Assembly, but with the following differences: * Voting period is the 7 days following the proposal. * Member Teams vote for two things, whether to convene the Emergency Assembly at all and their position on the issue if it is convened. * 2/3 of all Member Teams must vote to convene the assembly, a majority of ballots cast will again decide the issue. Administrator - Teams at the April Tournament captains' meeting will appoint someone (most likely Zig) to do the same stuff Zig is doing now. This way, there are predetermined periods where things can be changed up, so you don't have to wait a full year to try and change something. Because it's on a monthly basis, it's not like any give day could be a new rule. If something is incredibly god-awful, like "wreck the NCDA" bad, "literally everyone agrees something must be done" bad, you can get it fixed in 7 days. In both cases, the burden is on the teams wanting to change things, so they need to motivate enough other teams to care enough to vote on the issue. Lastly, if it isn't important enough to the extent that a majority of all teams is saying, "Yeah, we need to fix this now," then it'll just have to wait until April where a majority of people WILL be present.

You guys should start a new post with regards to a different voting policy, that way it might clean up the posts a little bit better.
